(Warrensburg) Another exciting Saturday night of dirt track racing action at Central Missouri Speedway on Comfort Inn, Warrensburg Station Race night and it was just what fans expected after 102 cars signed into the high banked track. After 21 races, Travis Johnson in the Mighty Modifieds, along with Steven Clancy with the ULMA Late Models, Nathan Himes in Street Stocks and Scotty Martin for the B-Modifieds were crowned feature winners on the smooth tacky racing surface after heavy rains subsided earlier this week. Race fans were treated to some fabulous racing action throughout the evening with 14 heat races to sift out the field into three B-Main and four A-Main feature events.

CMS Race fans voted for their Best in Show favorite cars in each class on opening night. This weekend trophies in each class were presented to Chad Staus in the Mighty Modifieds, Steven Clancy with the ULMA Late Models, Nathan Himes, in the Street Stocks and Phil Bradshaw for the B- Modifieds.

The Mighty Modifieds A-Main feature race was very special for Travis Johnson in his Dirt Works, Signs by Wild Bill, modified racing machine. This was his first-ever feature win in just his second year of racing at CMS in a class of talented drivers. He has a saying inside his car dedicated to his grandfather who introduced him to the races at a young age. And he was obviously emotional as he worked his way out of the car at the end of the race with his grandfather in mind.

He was dialed in tonight with hard chargers, Dustin Boney, Tim Karrick and Matt Johnson just behind him attempting to find a way around. Johnson held off the tough field of modifieds during numerous cautions early in the race. Richard Layne, Dean Wille, Aaron Marrant and Paul Knight were caught up in a front side pile up near the wall with all their cars in good enough shape to remain on the track after the caution.

Finally after several re-starts, the race was caution free to the end of the feature with Boney battling most of the race with Karrick for second place. Matt Johnson also had a great run from a sixteenth place start into a fourth place finish.

A scary moment occurred during the fourth modified heat race when Joey Lile of Higginsville flipped over several times over turn one before landing right side up on all four wheels. He was able to make it back out on the track for the B-main event with the fans showing their appreciation for his effort.

Heat race winners included Travis Johnson, Mike Ryan, Dustin Boney, Tim Karrick and Dean Wille.

ULMA Late Model fans anticipated a strong field of Late Model cars and were not disappointed when 16 drivers registered to race for the checkered flag in preparation for their first-ever Memorial Day weekend Duel Showdown special event at CMS in just two weeks.

Steven Clancy won his first feature of the year after battling with last weeks feature winner Brett Rollert at the front of the field. Rollert was leading this feature when he had to pull off with an untimely flat tire on lap ten. The race then heated up on lap thirteen with Jon Binning, Clancy and Jason Estes attempting to take the lead with two and three wide side by side action around the track. Clancy was able to hold them off for the win and Estes finished just behind him after some passing attempts for the lead. David Angell completed a heads up late race pass around Binning for a solid third place finish.

Another strong driver was James Rutledge moving up through the field from the tail end after a first lap spin in turn two. He had to leave the track later with mechanical problems, but showed the crowd he could work his way up in the standings and finished in ninth.

Heat race winners were Steven Clancy and Brett Rollert.

The Street Stocks were 18 strong once again tonight with a host of talented drivers throughout the field. Nathan Himes from Clinton started on the front row and didn't look back after passing Nic Bennet for the lead. Several cautions were thrown during this feature race with Himes hanging on to the lead with several challenges from Ray Smith, Brett Nail, Brain Johnson and Marc Carter. Carter worked his way up from a third row start mainly by passing cars on the high side. Nail was attempting to make his way to the front, but could not climb past the leaders and finished fourth.

The hard charger award goes to Chad Eickleberry with a hard fought third place finish from a fifteenth place starting position. Dale Atkinson also started in fourteenth and had another well earned fifth place finish. Early leader Nic Bennet spun in turn two on a lap three restart and was relegated to the back of the field before working his way back up into a ninth place finish. Previous feature winner Brian Johnson had mechanical problems on lap twelve and had to leave the track.

Heat race winners were Nic Bennet, Nathan Himes and Ray Smith.

Thirty B-Modifieds were on hand to race to the checkers for their feature when Scotty Martin from Independence won his third race of the year. His car looked strong again and he led the field to the green flag on row one with Phil Wright on the outside. An early caution was thrown when C.J. Lyle, driving his father’s B-Modified, spun with Gary Akers in turn two. Lyle had to leave the track with mechanical problems after the wreck. Chad Lebsock also looked strong early on, but suffered a flat tire before leaving the track.

Bubba Kline showed Martin some challenges on several cautions, but could not pass him for the lead. After some tough luck in the first few races, Kline finished a strong second in front of Phil Bradshaw and Tyler Lewis. Bradshaw started in eighth place before making several moves on the high and low side to finish in third. Lewis is a good young driver in his second year of racing at CMS and will be another driver to keep an eye on during the features this year.

A hard wreck into the front side wall caused a delay while emergency workers attended to Josh McCullough from Sedalia during the B-main race. His Modified hit the wall almost head on after a mix of cars including Charlie Palmer, Gary Lewis and Rob Littrell became tangled out of turn four. He did walk to the rescue vehicle after the incident.

Heat race winners were Scotty Martin, Phil Wright, Michael Mullins and Bubba Kline.
