Inside Line Promotions - OHSWEKEN, Ontario, Canada (Sept. 18, 2018) - Joe Trenca posted his eighth top-10 result of the season last Friday during the opening round of the 14th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals presented by Arrow Express at Ohsweken Speedway.
The Mucci Motorsports driver kicked off the action by maneuvering from seventh to fourth place in a heat race, which locked him into the ninth starting position for one of the twin A Mains.
"We were really good on Friday," he said. "I was really happy and comfortable in the car."
Trenca maintained a top-10 position throughout the race before ending ninth.
He carried that momentum into Saturday's finale. Trenca timed in seventh quickest in his group, which lined him up on the pole of a heat race.
"On Saturday we went 13.9 (seconds) and quick time overall was a 13.7," he said. "We were seventh in our group so that shows you how good our group was.
"I got into a deal on the first lap of the heat. I put myself in the wrong position. That cost me probably making the show. I just put myself in a bad position for about 10 seconds in that heat race. It's either going to pay off big time or it will hurt big time. I went to try to take the lead and hung myself in the slick. That was kind of it."
Trenca dropped to fifth on the opening lap of his heat race and he finished in that position to miss a lock-in spot into the main event by two positions. He then closed the night with a seventh-place run in a B Main.
"I felt good all weekend and we had good speed," he said. "I think it boiled down to that one situation in the heat race is what kept us out of making the A Main. That's just how racing goes sometimes."
Trenca will return to action this Saturday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., for the Outlaw Fall Nationals with the Patriot Sprint Tour.
