Pontoon Beach, IL (August 15, 2005) Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois is proud to present "OPEN WHEEL" Wednesday on August 24th, 2005. The USAC National Sprint Car Series headlines the action as they will battle in a 30 lap main event around the big half mile oval. Levi Jones, Dave Darland and Jay Drake will bring their 3-way duel for the 2005 Valvoline USAC National Sprint Car Championship to the Tri-City Speedway as they are separated by only 16 points! A total of 74 points are available at the 1/2-mile dirt oval. Jones is seeking his initial USAC driving championship, while Darland is a USAC “Triple Crown” Champion and Drake is the defending series titlist.
The USAC National Midget Series has partnered up with the Gateway Racing Series to bring the midget action to the Tri-City Speedway 1/4 mile oval. The event will award points to the USAC National Midget Series and the Gateway Racing Series. USAC stars Josh Wise, Jerry Coons, Jr., and Bobby East will go head to head against the Gateway Racing Series stars of Mike Hess, Steve Knepper, Tim Siner, Donnie Lehmann and Brad Kuhn.
The Gateway Racing Series 600cc Micro Sprints will also be competing on the 1/4 mile oval. A tight four way battle for the points championship will play itself out as Dustin Barks, Daniel Robinson, Ryan Criswell and Casey Barnhouse are separated by just 70 points.
The pit gates will open at 2pm and the grandstand gate will open at 4pm. An autograph session with all the top USAC and Gateway stars will kick off at 4pm.
