Tri-City Speedway to be C.A.R.S. Sanctioned in 2006

so late models ok would you wanna spend 60 grand or just a few thou? common sense says whats better its like a restictor plate race in nascar close door to door RACING any guy can lead any lap the racing is so close its kinda like IROC they have to actually DRIVE the car instead of just floor it and use all 800 the bigger motors make.

Your comparison to Iroc leaves out exactly what I was getting at in my post. Iroc is in identically prepared cars by the same people. Only difference is the drivers. There are a lot more variables in this class and all others for that matter. Same motor or not, there are other places guys will spend money to gain advantage. But the way some people talk on here. Is all you need to do is grab and old used beater and stock up at a swap meet and you'll be out there battling for wins and championships. Not going to happen.

Do you have any clue what your talking about? What car do you drive? You think these sportsman guys are running double hump heads and stuff like that? I said competitive, the guys that are winning in the sportsman are spending big $$$. So any used car is junk? I don't think any of those fasttrackers were brand new. So yes I think you could buy a used car, used Brinn and a crate and go compete for less than $10,000. You could slap together a shabby sportsman for less, you would get smoked, and lets also not forget the sportsman are almost dead because they have gotten out of hand. I think there should be A and B late models, A and B modifieds, and bombers. B cars using crates.

Ask Danny Jolly how much he has in his crate car. Danny built his car out of odds & ends that he picked up here & there. Danny won two of the touring races this year, one at Paducah & the other at Mt.Vernon against some good drivers & equipment. Saying its "not going to happen" is wrong, because it already has.

I have to disagree on the crate lm being cheaper than a sportsman. When you compare the two you have to do it new to new and used to used...engine to engine. A first class top of the line new sportsman rolling chassis is going to cost you anywhere from 7k to 13k tops where as a first class top of the line late model will run 10k to 20k plus for a roller. Now compare used prices... sportsman can be bought dirt cheep sometimes to 6k for a top of the line winning chassis less motor and trans. A good used late model is going to run any where from 3500 to 10k. Then you have to concider replacement costs... wheels new late model non beadlock 150+, 230+ w/beadlock... sportsman 35.00 w/o beadlock 100.00 with beadlock. It doesn't take much to figure out the difference to replace front end parts between the two. Now the motors... crate 3k to 6k plus dyno time if you want to get the most out of it( don't tell me it's not going to happen) sportsman motor 3k to 12k+. the sportsman may lose in the motor department but not by that much I beleive most sportsman could be competitive for under 6k In the long term I don't really see where it will be cheaper to run a crate over a sportsman.

How about tires? Hard spec tires that will last a long time on that little motor vs. super softees that you can get 1 night on sometimes. I went to Pevely with my mod with 4 brand new tires and left with 4 junk ones. What about motor failures??? How many in fastrack last year? Zero. How many in the sportsman class? Lots. Like I've said, if I didn't already have as many motor parts as I do, there would be no question. I still think about running crates instead everyday. I'll be starting on assembling my brothers car real soon, I'll keep track of everything I spend including a 604 crate and post a list. We'll see how competitive a older car can be, cause I'll be driving it at some of the Fastrack $$$ shows.

Not to diss anything being said...but..you can buy just about any really good late model roller for around 5,000 to 6500. See what a good sportsman roller is going for...about the same. Wheels...if you shop around..you can get them cheap(oh yea..might have a ding or 2..but so be it) . Im seriously thinking of selling all my sportsman stuff to go crate late model. If anyone wants to swap cars..let me know..we can talk. And..Cory..your right...hard tires will last 5 fold over what emods will..good point.

If you guys think this crate class isn't going to boil down to money spent, you are all nuts!!!!! Its racing for christ sake. It the nature of the beast. Yeah if you have evryone trying to run bargain basement race teams, someone is going to win. Let some boys with a little cash to throw around decide to come to this class and see what happens. 05" was the first year for these cars close to this area. Judging by what happened this year wouldn't be good I don't think. This will be a very good class for out dollared SUPER LATE MODEL and A-MOD drivers and Sportsman guys with a good budget. But they are not more affordable than a sportsman and shouldn't be sold as so. I would hate to see a bunch of support class drivers jump on this without looking at the big picture first. These support class racers are just that for a reason. Its usually due to BUDGET!

crate cars will never fully take over, there will always be a place for open late models, open mods, street stocks.i do think crates will be popular for the budget weekend warrior.....
