Tri-City to be UMP in 2005????

Keep Watching
Gundaker said on Dirt Nation that he has been in touch with UMP but nothing is set in stone yet. He said he will make announcements in a couple of weeks! Hopefully this means Tri-City will be UMP in 2005. :D

if tri-city goes with UMP sanctioning in '05 they will most likely have the best racing of the weekend especially if they run the 1/4 mile!!!

could be a real good thing for the racers running for points.
and the fans that for whatever reason want to see a sunday show.

I thought there a had to be a certain distance between two UMP tracks that race on the same night, 70 miles I think. I realize that UMP can change their own rules but this could create a conflict with Highland if Tri-City stays with a Saturday night show.

either way there aren't that many miles between belleville and tri city, belleville and highland, and it is really close to fifty miles from belleville to pevely. Just a thought.

Bring in the new UMP Street Stock class for those of us that dont want and can not afford to move up to Sportsman.

Looks like Kevin put the hurting on all the guys with steel blocks to me!! Hopefully Greenville can run to help u guys out, i feel sorry for ya's!!! Will UMP allow Belleville to run on a Sunday if they are rained out on a Friday since they are so close?? I think its a bad call going UMP and going to Sundays but thats my personal opinoin.

The steel block class grew to a real good number each night..and produced some really good close racing. Those cars cant compete with the ump ones competively(yea..they can do good and are fast...but..not a winning car) and its a shame they are pushed out.

I think Gundaker is doing what's in the best interest for his track, you know it is a business! With Tri-City being UMP they will have a good Late Model & Modified car count every Sunday, the points chasers dont miss a night of UMP points racing!!! So what Tri-City now has to offer is every Sunday you get to see Dixon, Melvin, Frankie Martin, Billy Faust, Mark Faust, Hammerlee, Zobrist, Eric Smith,& the list goes on & on. Then you add the list of Modified drivers, Harrison, Mavert, Bittle, Kinder, Griffaw, this list goes on & on also. All these guys at the same track every week will bring the fans in and thats how they(promoters) make money!! I think it's a win win situation for everyone, the fans get the best racing in the STL area & the track does well!! What seems to be the problem here ????

I agree that it is the best situation for race fans in the area, but for those LM cars who run steel blocks competitively, they will have a tougher time. But I guess it's good and bad for different people. I sure hope some of the competitive steel blocks show up to race there, because if they run the 1/4 mile track it's anyone's race and it won't be all about what kind of block you run, but how good you drive as we saw this year in Belleville.

I can't imagine how packed this track will be on opening night the first Sunday! I will make sure my calendar is open to attend that show as will many of my friends. Real race fans who know good racing when they see it will be there on Sundays. Whether it's church, football, nascar, or whatever excuse fans post on here, the real fans will be there. I go to church also and never missed an opportunity to go to St. Charles Speedway to see great racing. Thanks again Kevin from all area race fans. It has to be an improvement over years past at Tri-City and we sure appreciate it!!

All of this assumes these guys will want to race all 3 nights of the weekend. Sure sounds great on paper, but what will the reality of the changeover be? Basically, the Tri-City faithful who have supported the Saturday night weekly show for 2 decades are now being told to find another place to go, but be sure you save enough money to be at the "Playground of Power" every Sunday. For those racers who view this as a once a week hobby, they will have to choose between pulling a long distance to get their racing fix in, or run Sundays, but try to hurry along the program to get to work on Monday.

And what of the fans, who have become creatures of a Saturday night habit? Will they be quick to accept the change? I'm not talking about us net-diehards, but the common folk from Granite, Mitchell, Pontoon Beach, etc., who view the track as nothing more than an inexpensive entertainment option on Saturday nights.

Having said all of that, I believe that if any track in St Louis is to be successful on Sundays, Tri-City would be the one, due to the excellent location and racer-friendly facilities. Will there be enough fans to make it financially justifiable? You can't pay a UMP-style purse on just the back gate of a weekly show. And then there are the improvements that will need to be made. Lighting, scoreboard, PA and cleanup in general usually isn't free. The Hemsath family got away with having "work days" where the racers donated their labor, because most folks felt sorry for them. I doubt the Gundakers will go that route, as the family is a well-respected and high-visibility powerhouse in the real estate business.

Good luck to G&G Motorsports.

It's just a thought but what could this mean for Belleville or Godfrey? Could there be drivers that would pass on Friday night racing to run at TCS on Sundays? Godfrey and Belleville have both had problems getting the shows in under curfew this year. Will drivers want to run on a larger track than Belleville? Just thoughts, not making any assumption or predictions. And I have nothing against either of the Friday night tracks.
