Tri-State Speedway

Just heard that Don O'Neal won at Tri-State Speedway tonight. I think Randy Korte was second with Kevin Claycomb third. I guess they called the race after 19 laps due to rain.

I'm not completely positive, but I think that Rodney Melvin was 6th, Billy Faust 7th, Brian Shirley 8th.........Joe Morris 12th.

Don O'Neal was in a different area code and Korte and Claycomb had nothing for him. They had about 35 late models Mark Voigt was running in the top 5 and broke, can't remember much because of the sudden finish. Notable drivers there Billy Faust, Wes Steidinger, Brian Shirley, Rodney Melvin, Steve Barnett, Clay Bauman ran very well started about 6th, Roger Long broke in qualifying and never came back, and surprise entrant Duke Whiseant. About 45 sprint with about 4 USAC national sprint drivers so both had very good fields.

From the 4M...thanks to nunnc.

These arent full, but its the best I could get while announcing and working and running at the same time..lol

Hey jones_fan83, where the heck were you at last night? I was really looking forward to the restart when they called the race because Korte & Claycomb were fixin to give O'Neal a run for his money!!!!

Sean - I belive that the story went something like this. Nick was Ron Fisher's girlfriend's/wife's son. When Ron and the lady split the racing career was over.

To put Nick Lyon's career in perspective you have to remember that his mentor, Ron, was never known as a driver that ever seemed to worry about his or anyone else's equipment until Nick started driving.
