Two-Race Delta Dirt Nationals Next Up For NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The two-race Delta Dirt Nationals for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series is on tap for this weekend with the $2,000-to-win River Rumble 40 this Friday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, and the $2,500-to-win Rumble On The Gumbo 50 this Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.

Rounds 17 and 18 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season will feature the top traveling regulars on the tour taking on the local favorites that run in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series at both tracks.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN has a healthy point lead in quest of his second straight $20,000 National Championship. In 16 races, the National Dirt Hall of Fame Inductee has 1,344 points after five wins, eight top five finishes, 13 top ten finishes and two Fast Time Awards.

Chris Noah of Rainbow City, AL trails Johnson by 158 points in the second spot in the standings with 1,186 points. Noah has five top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 16 races, and he also leads the Rookie of the Year point standings.

Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 1,158 points after seven top five finishes and ten top ten finishes in 15 races. Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is fourth in the standings with 912 points.

Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS will be a favorite this weekend from the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 904 points. Dr. Dirt has five top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in 11 races, and he also has a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series career win at Greenville Speedway.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is sixth in the standings with 848 points after one win, one top five finish and seven top ten finishes in 12 races. Barrett will compete at his home track this Saturday night at Greenville Speedway. Walker Arthur of Forest, VA is seventh with 838 points and Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL is eighth with 804 points.

Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 782 points, and Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL has one win this season and rounds out the Top 10 in the standings with 748 points. Other top traveling competitors expected for the Delta Dirt Nationals include Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN, Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL and Ronald Dunn of Corinth, MS.

Jason Cliburn of Star, MS leads the Jackson Motor Speedway contingent of favorites into the River Rumble 40. Cliburn has four NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model wins this season at Jackson Motor Speedway and has also led 32 laps of NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series competition this season.

Other top Jackson Motor Speedway favorites expected this Friday night are Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, Cliff Williams of Star, MS, Mike Boland of Cuba, AL, Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS, Josh Banes of Learned, MS, Jimmy Cliburn of Star, MS and Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS.

Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS is the local favorite at Greenville Speedway for the Rumble On The Gumbo 50, as he has been a dominant force there with seven NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model wins on the ¼-mile gumbo clay oval this season.

Newman will be another one to watch at Greenville Speedway with two weekly wins and he is also a former series Gumbo Nationals Champion. Newman won the last time out for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series last month at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN.

On Friday night at Jackson Motor Speedway, the pit gate opens at 4 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Registration and Pre-Race Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:30 p.m., Hot Laps begin at 7 p.m., and racing action is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Jackson Motor Speedway is located just minutes east of I-55 at Exit 85 on Old Byrum Road. After getting off the exit, go east for 3/10-mile, turn left just before the railroad tracks, then go north for one mile. Jackson Motor Speedway is at 5448 Old Byrum Road. On Saturday night at Greenville Speedway, the gates open at 4 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:45 p.m. and racing is scheduled for 7 p.m.
