Off-season planning is in full force for many local racing venues and organizations and the United Late Model Association (ULMA) is no exception. Officials have been diligently securing race events for the 2009 race season, which is shaping up to be a promising third year for the association. So far, there are 70 possible points-earning races scheduled for the coming season spread out at six different tracks from April through September. Weekly Friday-night tracks for this year include Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO and Butler Motor Speedway in Butler, MO. Saturday-night tracks will be Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO and Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO. 24 Raceway in Moberly, MO will host the first special event of the year for ULMA on Saturday, April 18th. Although Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, MO is not on the weekly slate this year ULMA is proud to have three scheduled appearances at the track during the big three summer holiday weekend. Officials are still negotiating additional events for the coming year. Drivers will earn association points by keeping their 15 best finishes of the year at ULMA points-awarding races.

Lucas Oil Speedway returns for a third year with ULMA and has 12 nights of weekly racing scheduled for ULMA drivers. Valley Speedway has informed ULMA that at least 15 weekly events are scheduled at the track this year on Saturday nights. Callaway Raceway returns as a ULMA points-earning track in 2009 with what is expected to be near 20 nights of Friday night racing. New to ULMA weekly racing this year will be Butler Motor Speedway along the 71 Hwy corridor in Butler, Missouri. There are expected to be approximately 20 weekly nights at Butler Motor Speedway throughout the '09 campaign. The association's affiliation with both Butler and Callaway will be under mixed rules for late models. ULMA member drivers participating in weekly races at these tracks will be awarded points for competing in their ULMA-legal cars. Both Valley Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway are solely ULMA rules tracks. Drivers participating in weekly events at Lucas Oil Speedway, Callaway Raceway, and Butler Motor Speedway will race for weekly payout as determined by each respective track. An announcement regarding the Valley Speedway payout will be released in the coming weeks. ULMA special-event payouts are unique to each scheduled event and will be announced in advance of each race.

Recently, the association released some exciting changes for 2009 and is pleased to announce that both 602 and 604 CRATE late models will receive a weight break during ULMA-sanctioned events. "CRATE model" drivers may earn points towards the end-of-season points fund as long as they pay the standard $50 membership fee prior to competing at a sanctioned event and comply with the competition rules. For specific rules regarding CRATE late models running ULMA events or to contact an association board member with questions, visit the official ULMA Web site at www.ulmaracing.com. Several officials will be on hand at the annual Bodee's Race Auction in Sedalia, MO on January 24/25, the largest racer's auction in Missouri. The Moberly flyer and yearly schedules will be available at the auction at the collocated booth for Photographs by Shelly Payne and ULMA.

ULMA is pleased to announce a new business partner for the 2009 race season. Bulldog Racing Engines (BRE), headquartered out of Kingsville, MO, officially joins ULMA as a contingency partner and will provide the fourth-place finisher in the final ULMA standings with an engine dyno session valued at $450. The business has been around since 2001 and specializes in racing engines. Owner Michael Brown, an experienced local champion sprint-car driver, and ULMA President Kevin Coyne, are both excited about this new partnership and look forward to building a lasting relationship beneficial to weekly late model racing. For more information on race engines or specific dyno questions call Michael Brown at (816) 720-3734.

Now in its third year of sanctioning both weekly and special-event races, ULMA remains focused on keeping late model racing in the racing spotlight. Known as the easy to work with race association, ULMA is watching the current economic situation and proactively adjusting its way of doing business. Prospective owners and promoters looking for affordably priced late model racing events may contact a board member as listed on the official Web site or stop to chat with us at Bodee's auction. ULMA provides all the excitement of wheel-to-wheel, full-bodied late model racing with talented drivers at a by-comparison affordable purse. Racing business tactics must focus on ways to benefit both racers and track management and ULMA is committed to this thought process. By working with and not against other series and track promoters, ULMA is focusing on the benefit and progression of dirt-track racing. The association does not charge its affiliated tracks a sanctioning fee and is proud of its reputation of working in close quarters with owners and promoters.

Potential sponsors are needed for the upcoming season. Official Sponsors: Imhoff Construction. Contingency Sponsors: Wineland Enterprises, Bulldog Racing Engines, RacingJunk.com, Bodee's Race Bodies, and Kenny Johnson’s Race Replicas. Affiliate Sponsors: Photography by Shelly Payne, and Ken Dake Attorney at Law.
