ULTIMATE Super Late Models Return To “The Gap” This Saturday Night

The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series is set to make their second appearance of 2012 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee for the “Showdown at the Gap” this Saturday night, June 9[SUP]th[/SUP]. The ULTIMATE Series’ first visit the track affectionately known as “The Gap” left the fans on the edge of their seats and wanting more when Chad Ogle made a late race pass to take his first career ULTIMATE Series win and pick up a $5000 payday. Ogle overtook Series point leader Casey Roberts amongst heavy lap traffic and never looked back in securing his biggest career win to date. “Our CVR car was really good that night. We caught Roberts and then used the traffic to our advantage. It was a huge win for us. We will be back looking to get another one.” Ogle said.

Another of the numerous storylines entering this event is the recent tear that Tennessee racer Vic Hill has been on with the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series. Hill has won the last 2 ULTIMATE events that he has entered, first at Smoky Mountain Speedway back on May 26[SUP]th[/SUP] and this past Saturday, June 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] at Wythe (VA) Raceway. Hill is certainly no stranger to Volunteer Speedway’s Victory Lane either. Hill has multiple championships and numerous wins at the 4/10ths of a mile high-banked facility, which is situated just a few miles from his successful racing engine business. Many certainly believe that Hill has to be the odds on favorite going into the $5000 to win event. “It would be pretty neat to win 3 in a row for sure. We have just really been working at our program and we are really where we are fast and competitive every time and everywhere we have unloaded.” Hill said.

When asked if he could pinpoint the key to his recent success, which also includes a UMP sanctioned win at Paducah (KY) Raceway a few weeks back, Hill was candid. “It’s really a combination of things. We went on a streak at the end of the year last year and we are kind of back to where we were then. We started building our own shocks in-house and playing around with what made me comfortable. And these new Warrior 1G cars are really balanced and well built. Add that to our Vic Hill Race Engines, which we are very proud of, and that kind of has brought us to where we are and given us such great success.” Hill added.

Looking to thwart that both Ogle and Hill is ULTIMATE Series point leader Casey Roberts. Roberts led the most laps back at the May event but slipped back to 4[SUP]th[/SUP] in the final laps after tangling with a lapped car. Roberts will be looking to regain that success after admittedly struggling the last few weeks. “We are just struggling with our new car. We have just had little gremlins here and there. We had transmission issues at Smoky Mountain and then brake problems at Wythe. It’s just a matter of getting things turned back in the right direction here. We are close. These Capital Race Cars are really good we just have to get them to our liking. Hopefully we can do that this week and go up to Bulls Gap and get us a win.” Roberts said.

The ULTIMATE Super Late Models will headline the “Showdown at the Gap” with a $5000 to win / 50 lap event which will also feature the FASTRAK Racing Series-sanctioned Pro Late Model, the Modified Hobby and the Open Wheel Modified divisions. Adult grandstand admission on Saturday, June 9 is $15, youth (ages 11-15) $5, with 10-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $30, regardless of age. The pit gate will open Saturday, June 9 at 4 p.m. with the grandstand gate opening at 5 p.m. Drivers’ meeting is scheduled in the pits at 7 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m., to be followed by qualifying and then racing action getting the green flag around 8:45 p.m. For more information on Volunteer Speedway visit their home on the web at www.volunteerspeedway.com or call (423) 378-5942.
