GRAYVILLE, IL - May 1, 2009 - Jason McBride enters the weekend sitting in uncharted territory.

The 22-year-old Super Late Model driver from Carbondale, Ill., leads the division's latest UMP DIRTcar Racing national points standings – the first time he's reached the lofty position in his two years of full-fender action.

McBride vaulted from fifth to first in the standings after making four UMP DIRTcar starts last weekend, supplanting Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., atop the national points. He holds a nine-point edge over Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio, and 46-point advantage over Schlenk at the completion of the first month of 2009 UMP DIRTcar points racing.

One of UMP DIRTcar's busiest Super Late Model drivers – he made 78 starts last year in his rookie season – McBride has 11 races under his belt so far in '09. His four starts last weekend included a second-place finish on April 25 at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway.

In the UMP DIRTcar Modified points chase, Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky., remained the national points leader despite seeing his string of eight consecutive first- or second-place finishes come to and with a DNF on April 25 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. Last year's national points runner-up already owns six feature wins in 2009 and holds a 76-point lead over Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind.

Other UMP DIRTcar national points leaders include Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky., who is shooting for his second consecutive Pro Late Model title; Clayton Perry of North Vernon, Ind. (Sportsman); Chris Buhler of Baton Rouge, La. (Limited Modifieds); Grady Christian of Altoona, Fla. (Stock Cars); Mickey Hines of Seymour, Ind. (Factory Stocks); and Danny Lunn of Altoona, Fla. (4-Cylinders).
