GRAYVILLE, IL – June 5, 2009 – Young drivers Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich. (Super Late Models) and Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind. (Modifieds) remained on top of the UMP DIRTcar Racing national points standings as the month of May came to a close.

Nine weeks into the UMP DIRTcar weekly racing season, the 22-year-old Schlenk holds a 43-point lead (1,247-1,204) over Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill. Schlenk has run 21 races versus Feger's 18; the Super Late Model champion is determined using a driver's best 40 finishes/points nights.

Schlenk maintained his national points lead for the fifth consecutive week thanks to three top-five finishes in as many starts last weekend. He was victorious in the May 29 feature at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park, then recorded finishes of third and fourth in a double-feature program on May 30 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio.

Feger, meanwhile, made four UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned starts and registered a top-10 finish in each race. His week included finishes of fourth on May 28 at La Salle (Ill.) Speedway; seventh on May 29 at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway; fifth on May 30 at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo.; and third on May 31 at Shepp's Speedway in Alexander, Ill.

Robinson, a 21-year-old who attends Indiana University, stayed atop the Modified points standings following a busy three-race week. His advantage is now 33 points (1,322-1,289) over veteran Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky.

Defending Pro Late Model national champ Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky., continued to lead the division's points standings through the end of May. He holds a commanding 183-points edge (1,282-1,099) over Caleb Ashby of Cunningham, Tenn.

The Pro Late Model division had a history-making moment last weekend thanks to 12-year-old Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., who became the youngest driver to win in the crate-engine class when he captured the May 29 feature at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway. The son of dirt Late Model legend and chassis builder Bob Pierce was victorious in only his eighth career Pro Late Model start.

In other UMP DIRTcar divisional points races, the national points leaders through June 1 included Clayton Perry of North Vernon, Ind., who overtook Troy Clark, also of North Vernon, Ind., for the top Sportsman spot; Chad Boone of Owensboro, Ky., in the Limited Modifieds; Chris Fisher of Bluff Point, N.Y., in the Stock Cars; Bill May of Muskegon, Mich., in the Factory Stocks; and Bob Zbinden of Alhambra, Ill., in the 4-Cylinders.

All drivers are reminded that they must have a valid DIRTcar Racing membership by June 16 to be eligible to earn points for the remainder of the season. Visit www.DIRTcarmembers.com for more information about the benefits of a DIRTcar Racing membership.
