UMP Mods will not have spoilers in '15

Except on paper, there is NOT ONE TRUE 750 hp motor running in a modified and winning. If you are racing "dyno sheets" the sky is the limit! If you have a good chassis, a good driver, a 600-650hp motor and Lady Luck, you can win in an A-Mod. It takes all four and it doesn't come easy! Steve Sr

Removing the spoilers on modifieds is probably the best thing I've ever heard of ump doing. It won't be a huge difference but it does put downforce on the rear wheels. Stick your hand out the window going 70 miles per hour down the high way. Think how much more surface area the spoiler has than your hand. Modifieds are suppose to be a still somewhat middle of the road economical class. Spoilers don't belong on them they belong on late models. I think you will see better racing without the spoilers. Remember when you used to see cars running the wall or up on the cushion all the way around the corners? Now the cars all seem to hang around in the middle of the track. The spoilers changed corner entry and the way mods went thru the corners. No spoilers will widen the track and send cars higher and lower searching for traction. It would be really hard for ump to change motor and shock rules because they've let it go on for so long people have so much of that equipment bought what would the do with it. Really the best and fairest way to bring down the horsepower and equipment factor is to remove spoilers and limit down force with other body panels and go to a harder tire. I commend ump for at least doing something every little bit helps. For all the spoiler lovers that are whining about no more spoilers....you know what s-p-o-i-l-e-r spells?? CRUTCH!

Perfect reply Rusty. The guys winning are the ones racing 2 nights on the weekend and 4 nights a week in the shop. You get out of it what you put in it.

Actually your right Kermit in a week, and with a little hard work swapping engines, shocks ..a few more high dollar parts I could see you winning in one of the middle of the pack cars...I wasnt talking about the cars the guys leave on there trailer till saturday morning and work on it a couple minutes then load it up to go race. But maybe your right and its the people not working on there cars that is hurting car counts and fans in the stands...Rules doesn't really matter to me any longer because I'm retired and moving to Florida in Dec

Or at minimum provide the reasons and some facts of why they are making the changes. Otherwise there's just a lot of speculation.

how about for starters UMP just get the rules out well before the season starts like IMCA and USRA, not a lot to ask, and yet UMP year after never seems to be able to get it done. For the money we pay them this is a real simple deal. Perhaps we should all send UMP a note that no membership fees will be paid until rules are published, guessing if enough do this they might get rules out.

I agree with your point but they get the rules out before we buy memberships now. But yes they do need to get rules out before mid November at the latest.

Dave you are right they have gotten them out sooner as of late, but I know last year it was down to wire on tires in IL and IN, left racers I knew having to call the tracks to find out what tire was allowed D's or A's, it was a mess. Sam pretty said much "well we are leavin it up to the promoters", while all other sanctions have a tire rule and post it for all to see before season starts. Some promoters within UMP did there part and got the word out. I guess the way I see it is that this is something that UMP should be taking care of instead leaving up to the promoters.
