Does neone know for sure and can say with knowledgeable fact / fiction if there are race cars out there with engine setbacks greater than UMP's 6" rule? Do not want names just want to know if they exist...

Seems as if this were a big controversy in the NALMS series this week, well that and spoilers...but who's counting...:)

WWWracer - racing from the net is much more fun!

It is my understanding that rayburns are the most common and have the farthest setback, but other manufactures also have some cars that have an illegal setback on them, just not as severe.

i think what they should do is state this about the set backs in a drivers meeting that if urs is set back beyond wat its supposed to be then u must get it fixed. then let a few weekends go by and then start checking and dqing people for it. i think that would settle the problem..whats the controversy over the spoilers? didnt hear about that one.

Are there certain people making an issue of the engine setback rule? I haven't heard anybody bring this up much this year.

Most guys that win alot use aluminum engine blocks, with either block and a car newer than five years old, you can get all the rear percentage you want. After saying that, I must say that I don't think it really matters alot where anybodies engine is. If CJ is having the guys jig the cars up with the engines to far back, and UMP wants to make guys change them, there are going to be some busy drive shaft shops. I know that for most of us when we buy a car we expect it to be legal, and assume that the engine set back will be on the money. I will get real picky checking my own car as soon as I get every thing working well. I think when the big races hit our area a big deal will be made of this, and I don't want to be on the short end of the stick.

What get me is that in the modifieds, UMP outlaws the Gremlin body style, that has been legal for years. Compared to engine set back that is a very minor infraction. But from all of the talk that I have heard UMP is going to let setback slide. UMP has always said that they were in it for the local, weekend racer, But the only person they are hurting is the people they are saying they trying to protect. If UMP would do the same thing for setback as with the modifieds, give the driver 6 weeks to fix problems then any particular driver found illegal will loose all points.

Well I didn't personally see any illegal engine set backs this past weekend, I did see a couple Gremlin roofs on modifieds.

Not Illegal Anymore......

Don't worry, never fear, the rules have been adjusted. So unless there is anyone running a really really illegal car, the bi***ing will stop. thanks for trying though. Everywhere

ok and what does "adjusted" mean

enlighten us all as to what rules were adjusted and how that makes everything and everyone legal.
I personally do not care about the Gremlin roofs most of them look ugly and I have no problem with them as long as they are the purchased fiberglas ones, but with people building their own, hey I always read a tape measure differently!!!

LOL
