Don O'Neal who has held a commanding lead in the 2004 UMP Summer National point standings leads the UMP Summer Nationals contingent into event #16 on Tuesday night as the group invades the Highland Speedway for a $6,000.00 to win A-Main 40 lap event. O'Neal has been dogged in the chase for the championship by Shannon Babb, second on the winners list in this years series. Babb recorded yet another second place finish at Vermilion County Speedway, his 10th finish in the top three in A-Main action.
O'Neal now sits atop the standings with a solid point lead as he has 683 points to Babb who sits second with 595. O'Neal also has topped the $62,000 mark in money won during A-Main action, after pocketing yet another $6,000.00 win at Vermilion County!
Third place is Terry English with 577 points to his credit. English is rapidly approaching Babb in a heated battle for the runner-up position.
Fourth is Rodney Melvin with 463 points followed by Dennis Erb who has held his top 5 position with 384 points.
Randy Korte is sixth with 355 points followed closely by Justin Allgaier with 319 points.
Rounding out the top 10 Greg Johnson with 296 points, Kevin Weaver with 268 points and Chris Carlson with 229 points.
So far in the 2004 Summer Nationals 9 drivers have been in attendance at EVERY EVENT and the average car count has been 38+ cars!
