So did anyone else see Steve Savard's Channel 4 coverage of the River City Rascals' press conference introducing Bob Wente as Director of Baseball Operations? Savard made no mention of Wente's background with Tri City
-h-ll, he couldn't even pronounce his name correctly. It came out something like Wen-tay.

Clearly, the sports director of one of the local tv news affiliates is absolutely oblivious to our sport.
 
Since Wente moved from racing he changed the pronunciation of his name from Wen-tee to Wen-tay. Just like Tony Dorsett!
 
Didn't see ch4, but caught the piece Fox2 did during the 5pm. Pronounced his name right, referenced his background in motorsports, and rolled video of Bob speaking about his new job. Nice job by KTVI.

I'm not surprised that Channel 2 would know enough about racing to reference his racing background. I'm sure you'll recall the night at Granite City when Channel 2 sports anchor Pete Petersen made some laps on the 1/4 mile.

By the way, the Rascals website makes no mention of the Wente hiring yet.

Well, the Frontier League ends the first half of September. There would be plenty of room in TR Hughes Field to fit a paperclip 1/6 mile or so track to race Rascles--or midgets? :p

Seriously, though, they did fit a track in at the old Indianapolis Indians AAA ball diamond.

Anyone else notice the Rascals' press release that Jimmy D. posted called Tri City a "NASCAR approved dirt raceway"? Interesting, given TCS hasn't been sanctioned by NASCAR for some years now.

Makes one wonder if they threw that in to add credibility to the Wente hire to folks who know nothing about racing.

Bob only dropped the NASCAR sanction last year. I don't know how many years TCS was NASCAR before that.
