FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Unique “North Alabama 200” for strictly stock cars on New Year’s weekend is poor man’s Daytona

Atlanta, GA – December 4, 2010 – On Sunday, January 2, 2011 North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Alabama will host the 1st annual “North Alabama 200” USCS Enduro Race for strictly stock cars. Promoters Jeff Greer of North Alabama Speedway and Pete Walton of the United Speed Contest Sanction (USCS) are trying to bring racing back to an affordable level with plenty of fun and entertainment for those in the race and in the grandstands for this event. Based on forty entries the event pays an eye-popping $3000 to win.

Walton who brought the idea of resurrecting North Alabama’s history as a site of past “Enduro” races to Greer as a way to do some winter-time and off-season race activities stated that, “Our basic intent with the “North Alabama 200” Endurance Race is to give people who have never entered a race a chance to be able to strap their helmet and seat belts on and chase their dream.

Almost anyone with the desire and just a little bit of mechanical ability can prepare a strictly stock type car to race in this unique event. Those who don’t have a shade-tree mechanic’s skills, can enlist the help of their friends who do have. To reward them, they can even take them for the 200 laps or two-hour tour of the historic 3/8 mile dirt oval as their passenger(s).

The race itself will feature an estimated field of fifty competitors racing for 200 laps (or 75 miles) around the North Alabama Speedway 3/8 mile oval with 100 laps of racing clockwise and 100 laps of racing counter-clockwise. The event will pay a whopping $3000 based on forty entries, plus a six foot Championship trophy to the winner. The balance of top five finishers will receive trophies and cash awards of $1000 for 2nd place, $750 for 3rd place, $600 for 4th place and $500 goes to the 5th place finisher. Your car and crew’s appearance is a priority as well for those seeking the $500 award for the best appearing car and crew. Based on at least forty entries, this award makes it possible for one driver/team collecting $3500 for the Sunday drive.

Rules for the event are posted on both the North Alabama Speedway and USCS racing series websites at www.northalabamaspeedway or www.uscsracing.com . For more info please contact Speedway promoter Jeff Greer at 256-366-3836 or USCS President, Pete Walton at 770-460-7223. North Alabama 200 pre-event technical inspections will start on the day before the race on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Noon. On Sunday morning cars that still need to pass inspection will be able to arrive at 9:00am for those inspections.

Spectator gates will open for spectators at Noon. The driver introductions for the North Alabama 200 Enduro Race will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon. Racing action kicks off at 2:00pm. Admission to the event is $10 for Adults with Children 11 and under absolutely FREE. Several pre-event ticket discount locations will also be announced next week.
