United Black Drag Racers Association honors local community activists and donates money for Hurricane Katrina Recovery

St. Louis, Missouri-

The United Black Drag Racers Association (UBDRA), a 501c3 organization that uses drag racing to raise funds for local charities, will host it Annual Awards Banquet, Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Grand Ballroom of the Casino Queen Hotel, 200 South Front Street, East St. Louis, IL.

Each year, the organization donates the proceeds from their world's famous Black Sunday Drag Race to metro area charities. Past recipients include Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, American Heart Association, United Negro College Fund, Children's Miracle Network, Educare Learning Center, and many other Metro area charities.

The night's event will include the induction of Martin Mathews, founder and CEO of the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, Mildred Jamieson, founder of Faith House and Hope House and Rev. Dorris Davis, founder of Dorris' Helping Hand into the organization's "Quarter Mile of Fame " in recognition of their work in the community - work that embodies the mission of the UBDRA. These organizations are also past recipients of the UBDRA charitable contributions.

The featured keynote speaker for the evening is Lin Appling, Commissioner of the Public Service Commission for the State of Missouri and author ofBe Somebody :A Guide to Achieving Personal Success.

This year's charitable award recipients include Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, Faith House, Dorris' Helping Hand, East St. Louis Community Camp, Black World History Museum, Star Bethel Full Gospel Baptist Church Youth Programs, North Side Community Center, African American Museum of
Southern Illinois and special guests, the 100 Black Men of New Orleans, who will travel to St. Louis to receive a donation for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The evening will also showcase the unveiling of the UBDRA Scholarship, which will go to aid area youth seeking financial assistance for their undergraduate studies.
