USA World 50 Friday August 28 at Paducah International Raceway

Paducah International Raceway is the home of the USA World 50. On Friday August 28, 2009 PIR will host the USA World 50. This will be a UMP/MARS (Mid America Racing Series) co-sanctioned event paying $5,000 to the winner in the Late Model Division. Paducah International Raceway is proud to have the USA World 50 on its racing venue as the 3/8 mile power plant is known for producing 3 and 4 wide racing though out the field.

Jerry Inman won the inaugural USA World 50 in 1978. He followed it up with another win in 1979. Tom Helfrich went to victory lane in 1980. Larry Moore took the win in 1981. 1982’s winner was Russ Petro. In 1983, Russellville, KY Phil Gregory took the checkers. Other winners through the years include (NASCAR Busch veteran) Jeff Purvis and former (UMP Super Late Model National Champion) Terry English. Last Years winner Brian Shirley is expected to go for his second World 50 title in a row but he will have to contend with the MARS point leaders Eric Turner, Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne all 3 who call Springfield MO. home. He will have PIR’s local racers Kevin Cole from Buckner IL. Jeff Walston from Paducah, KY. and Benton, KY. native Terry English all contending for the checkered flag.

On the racing card that evening with the Late Models will be the UMP Modifieds, UMP Pro Late Model, UMP Street Stock and the UMP 4 Cylinder Warriors. Pits will open at 3:00pm Grandstands at 5:00pm and racing action will start at 7:00pm. Grandstand admission will be $20 for adults kids 12 and under will be $5 and Pit admission will be $30.
