USAC's "The Week Of Indy" Just A Few Weeks Away
Three Day Discount Again Available Via Superticket

(Indianapolis, IN) For the third straight year, USAC Racing and Track Enterprises have combined forces for "The Week Of Indy", three big events leading up to the Indy 500. This year's events will be Wednesday-Friday, May 23-25. The three night show features open wheel cars from the USAC AMSOIL INC. National Sprint Car tour and the USAC Silver Crown Champ Cars. The events will be held at the Terre Haute Action Track, the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center, and Lucas Oil Raceway. The superticket, which gives fans a 25% discount if they attend all three events, has also returned.

USAC's "The Week Of Indy" begins at the Terre Haute Action Track on Wednesday, May 23. The Tony Hulman Classic will feature the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car tour and the Scott's Custom Colors & Auto Body DIRTcar Racing Modifieds. Last year's sprint car event was postponed until October, due to unseasonable conditions in May. Kevin Thomas, Jr. won the combined Tony Hulman/Don Smith Classic event in 2017.

Terre Haute pits are scheduled to open at 3:00, grandstands at 4:00, hotlaps at 6:30, and racing action is scheduled to begin at 8:00. The 100-mile race features the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series and the DIRTcar Modifieds, which return to this year’s schedule. The Hoosier Hundred has a rich history and is arguably Track Enterprises biggest one-day show of the year.

Hoosier Hundred pit gates will open at 12:00, grandstands at 3:00, hotlaps start at 5:00, racing begins for the Modifieds at 7:00, with the Hoosier 100 scheduled for an 8:00 green flag. The final event of the Track Enterprises promotion is on Friday, May 25 at Lucas Oil Raceway. For the third time, the USAC Silver Crown Series will be running at the Brownsburg, IN complex on Friday in an event that will be known as the Carb Night Classic. This year, the event also takes on the name of Dave Steele, a champion open wheeler, who passed away in a Florida racing crash last year. The Dave Steele Carb Night Classic will also feature action from the Pro Mazda and USF2000 classes, which return after a year away from Lucas Oil Raceway.

Lucas Oil Raceway pits will open at 12:00, grandstands at 2:45, with on track activity beginning at 3:00. Qualifying for the Silver Crown cars will be around 5:00 while their feature will be run at 8:15. Pro Mazda and USF2000 will run their feature events, starting at 6:00. USAC Championship Leader Swanson Looking for 4th Consecutive Hoosier Hundred

By Jay Hardin, Track Enterprises Staff

May 4, 2018-Indianapolis, IN-Kingsburg, California’s Kody Swanson is atop the 2018 USAC Silver Crown standings and enters the enters the prestigious Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with an opportunity to tie a record once thought to be as hard to reach as any in auto racing. In September of 1973, Al Unser and the Vel’s Parnelli Jones Racing team captured its fourth consecutive victory in the annual race at the Indy Mile – the only occasion of a driver winning four straight events at one of the three traditional dirt miles the USAC Silver Crown Champ Cars annually compete on.

During the USAC Week of Indy on Thursday night, May 24, Swanson and the DePalma Motorsports team have an opportunity to join that exclusive club exemplified by brilliant dominance, especially in this modern era in which the equipment and speed throughout the field are so equal. In fact, Kody has accomplished the three-peat feat in the very same car during his wins in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The legendary “Arizona Cowboy” Jimmy Bryan won three consecutive Hoosier Hundred events in 1954, 1955 and 1956 driving the famed Dean Van Lines Kuzma dirt car for another legend, chief mechanic Clint Brawner. All four of Unser’s Hoosier wins were in the same Grant King car owned by Vel Miletch and Parnelli Jones with two coming in Johnny Lightning livery for chief wrench George Bignotti and the other two in the Viceroy colors.

Swanson’s three victories on the flat, tricky one-mile dirt track were near copies of each other. Swanson let others lead in 2014 before taking the top spot and leading the last 23 circuits; he was perhaps less patient in 2015 taking the lead for the last 33 circuits before pulling into victory lane. He also led the last 33 circuits in 2016 after starting third. The majority of Swanson’s success has come at the wheel of a car with familiar livery. Swanson’s chief mechanic is the legendary Bob Hampshire who won three Hoosier Hundred races and two national championships with Jack Hewitt at the wheel of the red and white number 63, a scheme currently piloted by Swanson.

Swanson, Bryan and Unser are among a select group of fourteen drivers who have won 100-mile championship dirt car races on the three remaining active one mile dirt tracks in the United States, Indianapolis, Springfield and DuQuoin. While Bryan (55 & 56) and Unser (1970) swept the three in the same season, Swanson accomplished the feat over a four year period. He first won at DuQuoin in 2010, placed the Indiana mile on the list in May of 2014 and completed the tri-fecta by winning at Springfield in August of the same year.

Swanson won the most recent event on the pavement at Toledo, while Bobby Santons won the season opener at Phoenix and Justin Grant captured the Sumar Classic at Terre Haute. Practice for the 2018 Hoosier Hundred is slated for 5 p.m. EDT, with qualifications at approximately 6:30 and the 2018 Hoosier Hundred beginning around 8 p.m.

JUST IN CASE…BACK UP PLANS SET FOR HOOSIER HUNDRED AND CARB NIGHT CLASSIC

Brownsburg, Indiana………The extended forecasts for two of the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series’ marquee events – the “Hoosier Hundred” and the “Carb Night Classic” - appear to be excellent, but USAC and Track Enterprises have made an agreement to secure rain dates with each of the venues just in case Mother Nature interferes.

The 63rd running of the “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis is slated for Thursday, May 24. However, if weather were to be uncooperative, the race would reboot on Sunday night, July 1 at the Indy Mile.

Friday, May 25th’s “Carb Night Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Ind. holds down the spot as the final race of a busy USAC week leading up to the Indianapolis 500. That situation would not be altered if weather happened to intervene. The race at the .686-mile paved oval would push off the following day, Saturday, May 26, for a daytime 100-lap event starting at noon.

The May 24 “Hoosier Hundred” presented by TBA Oil & Warehouse begins with the pits opening at noon, grandstands opening at 3pm, practice at 5pm and racing at 7pm. The 100-mile main event is scheduled for an 8pm start.

The May 25 “Dave Steele Carb Night Classic” gets underway at Lucas Oil Raceway with pits opening at noon while the grandstands open at 2:45pm. Practice begins at 3pm, with qualifying set for 5pm. Main events for the Pro Mazda and USF2000 series begin at 6pm. The Silver Crown main event is slated for an 8:15pm start.

Tickets can be obtained by calling Track Enterprises at 217-764-3200 or at the gate on raceday. A three-day special Superticket for the full Week of Indy including the “Tony Hulman Classic” at the Terre Haute Action Track featuring the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars on Wednesday, May 23, the “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday, May 24 and the “Carb Night Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway on Friday, May 25 is also available at https://usacracing.ticketspice.com/2018-week-of-indy.

The “Hulman Classic,” “Hoosier Hundred” and the “Dave Steele Carb Night Classic” will all be streamed LIVE on http://www.SpeedShiftTV.com/. A day following each of the races, you can watch it again, on-demand, at http://www.Loudpedal.TV./

Indy Native/USAC Car Owner Nolen After 4th Indy Mile Win

By Jay Hardin
Track Enterprises Staff

May 16, 2018-Indianapolis, IN-Growing up in Indianapolis in the 1950’s, USAC Silver Crown car owner Gene Nolen had plenty of opportunity to be infected with the racing bug. The Indianapolis 500, the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and midget action at the old West 16th Street Speedway all served to give the 1961 Indianapolis Tech graduate a taste of the racing life.

Nine years after forming his own plastic injection molding company Nolen bought a midget race car and placed Wisconsin driver Paul Huntington behind the wheel. For the last 29 seasons Nolen has fielded one or more cars in the top tier USAC Silver Crown Series. The Whiteland, Indiana based team has won numerous events including the Little 500 at Anderson and employed a hall of fame stable of drivers including Tony Stewart, Johnny Parsons Jr., Jim Keeker and Tony Elliot.

Nolen nearly retired after the 2014 season, decided to return to the series and at times put three cars on track in USAC’s top division. This season the Hoosier son returns armed with two USAC national champions in his stable and a chance to capture his fourth win as a car owner in the Hoosier Hundred on the Indy Mile.

Gene’s first entry appeared in the first night time Hoosier Hundred at the fairgrounds in 1989 with Rocky Hodges at the wheel qualifying 17th and finishing in the same spot. It would take another ten years before a Nolen entry found victory lane on the Indy mile. Ironically, the late Tony Elliot would lead the last 20 miles in Gene’s familiar number 20 on the way to victory. Elliot repeated again in 2001 in similar fashion leading the last 17 miles. The third Hoosier Hundred win for a Nolen owned entry came with fellow Indianapolis native and second generation driver Shane Hollingsworth who captured a very emotional win on the home track.

Should Nolen win a fourth race he will probably break one of his own streaks. Each Hoosier Hundred win for the Indiana car owner has come with an Indiana driver at the wheel. This year Nolen has 2008 USAC Silver Crown champ Jerry Coons Jr. of Arizona behind the wheel of the yellow 20, Coons is also a two-time Hoosier Hundred winner. The other member of the Nolen stable is 2016 USAC Silver Crown champ Chris Windom who broke through and gained his first mile dirt track win at DuQuoin in 2016.

The Hoosier Hundred is the second of three events in USAC’s “Week of Indy” featuring the Hulman Classic at Terre Haute Wednesday May 23, the Hoosier Hundred at the fairgrounds May 24, and the Carb Day Classic at Raceway Park on May 25.

A great deal is available for those who don't want to miss a single lap of "The Week Of Indy". A Superticket is being sold for a savings of 25% off of the regular three day prices. For just $60, a savings of $20, a fan will receive general admission at Terre Haute and Lucas Oil Raceway as well as a reserved seat for the Hoosier Hundred. HOOSIER HUNDRED ENTRY LIST RELEASED

By: Richie Murray – USAC Media

Indianapolis, Indiana………Thirty-nine drivers and cars have entered thus far for the 63rdrunning of the “Hoosier Hundred” on Thursday, May 24 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Kingsburg, California’s Kody Swanson leads the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car series standings as he goes for his fourth win in a row at the Hoosier Hundred. After capturing the 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions, Swanson has a chance to equal what seemed like an untouchable record set by Al Unser from 1970 to 1973. The only thing that has stopped Swanson recently at the Indy Mile was Mother Nature in 2017. He won the most recent series race on May 4 at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway.

Swanson is one of three past “Hoosier Hundred” winners entered for the event. All three happen to be multiple-time winners in the event. Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona took the checkered in 2011 and 2012. Germantown, Tennessee’s Jeff Swindell won twice, in 1991 and 1993. However, his first Indy Mile victory came 30 years ago at the 1987 “Hulman 100.”

The series’ lone race on the dirt this season was captured by Ione, California’s Justin Grant in the “Sumar Classic” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track on April 29.

Swanson (2014-15 & 17) and Coons (2008) are also among four Silver Crown champs entered for the race, including Fenton, Missouri’s Ken Schrader (1982) and Canton, Illinois native Chris Windom (2016).

The “Hoosier Hundred” presented by TBA Oil & Warehouse begins with the pits opening at noon, grandstands opening at 3pm, practice at 5pm and racing at 7pm. The 100-mile main event is scheduled for an 8pm start.

Two Time Hoosier Hundred Winner, 82 Silver Crown Champ Return to Indy Mile!

By Jay Hardin
Track Enterprises Staff

May 19, 2018-Indianapolis, IN-Eleven rookies on this year’s Hoosier Hundred entry list have the opportunity of a life time to learn from two legendary drivers who competed in the big cars long before many of the rookies were even born! If the return of 1991 & 1993 race winner Jeff Swindell wasn’t enough news, the return of 1982 Silver Crown champion Ken Schrader has only added to the buzz created by the continued upward swing of USAC’s top tier series.

Swindell continues to hold the 60-mile track record set here in May of 1987 when he drove from the back of the pack to capture a spectacular race win in the Hulman 100 and went on to turn heads that year setting a world record at Springfield and nearly winning at DuQuoin. His performance led to a full-time ride with Tim Delrose and Bob Galas in 1990, and in 1991 they captured the first of two Hoosier Hundred races.

Swindell was mostly absent from the series after the 1993 season but returned in 2006 to run at Springfield and DuQuoin for Galas. Jeff came back to Indianapolis in 2010 and 2011, and again in 2016. In 2016 he was marching toward the front when caught up in an accident on lap 84. Later that year he led 55 miles at DuQuoin and finished second and nearly won at DuQuoin last year showing that there is still gas left in the tank of the Tennessee native.

1982 Silver Crown champ Ken Schrader made his series debut at Terre Haute ironically driving for Tim Delrose and Bob Galas. The 1979 USAC Stock Car Rookie of the Year and the 1983 USAC Sprint Car champ would eventually go on to become a NASCAR Rookie of the Year and multi-time NASCAR Cup winner before scaling back to run dirt tracks and a part-time ARCA schedule. He toyed with the idea of getting back into one of the dirt champ cars back in 2016. The idea became a reality when Springfield, Illinois car owner Dennis McQuinn offered him the seat of the familiar orange 14 and Schrader willingly accepted running both Springfield and DuQuoin.

Kenny first appeared on the Indy mile in the May, 1982 Hulman 100 starting second and finishing third while leading 37 miles. He finished ninth in the 1982 Hoosier Hundred, then won the pole in 1983 and led the first nine laps before blowing an engine in front of the grandstand on lap 33. His best finish in the event came in 1984 when he started seventh and finished there, his last appearance in a dirt car on the fairgrounds mile. He has since, however, won in ARCA stock cars and UMP modifieds at the fairgrounds.

To purchase a Superticket, visit https://usacracing.ticketspice.com/2018-week-of-indy or call 217-764-3200.

48TH HULMAN CLASSIC KICKS OFF BIG WEEK OF USAC RACING

By: Richie Murray – USAC Media

Terre Haute, Indiana………Kevin Thomas, Jr. has seemingly had the Midas touch in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition over the past two years.* No driver has accumulated more victories than the Cullman, Alabama driver over that stretch and he arrives at this Wednesday night’s 48th running of the “Tony Hulman Classic” as the reigning race winner and the current series point leader.

Thomas has already won twice this season at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. and Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway.* Last fall, though, Thomas picked up one of the biggest victories of his career as he slid his way past Dave Darland with five laps remaining, then ran down leader Chase Stockon with three to go to win his first USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature at the Action Track in four seasons.

Thomas owns two career USAC National Sprint Car victories at the half-mile dirt oval in Terre Haute, also winning back in 2013 during “Indiana Sprint Week” in a ferocious battle with Darland.* His Dynamics, Inc./Hoffman Auto Racing team has won four times at Terre Haute, including one “Hulman Classic” with Jerry Coons, Jr. in 2010.

The “Hulman Classic” has been a special event for Darland over the years.* It’s the home of the Lincoln, Indiana native’s first career series win back in 1993.* A mere 21 years later, in 2014, he was back in victory lane at the Action Track for his second “Hulman Classic” win.* The resurgence of Darland has already led him to victory lane at Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway in April.

Second in points, Chris Windom has a full plate of racing on his docket for this week, beginning with Wednesday’s “Hulman Classic.”* The 2011 “Hulman Classic” winner also intends to run Thursday’s “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the “Dave Steele Carb Night Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana on Friday and the Payless “Little 500” on Saturday at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.* Sandwiched between all that is his debut appearance with the Indy Lights series in the “Freedom 100” at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, marking 770 laps of competition in five races for the Canton, Illinois native in main events over a four-day span.

Robert Ballou, sixth in the standings, collected the two most recent “Hulman Classic” rifles prior to Thomas, winning the “Hulman” back-to-back in 2015 and 2016.* After a tough start to the season, the 2015 series champ out of Rocklin, Calif. has finished in the top-five in his last three starts with two second-place finishes.

Another past series champ who’s returned to form in the most recent races after a sluggish start is Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon.* The 2014 and 2016 champ has finished in the top-five in each of his past three starts, including a victory at Eldora two weeks ago to rise up to eighth in the standings.*

Ninth in points, Ione, California’s Justin Grant is USAC’s most recent winner at Terre Haute, capturing the “Sumar Classic” for the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car division in late April.* Starting from the pole position in that race was Tyler Courtney from Indianapolis, Indiana.* The driver known as “Sunshine” is third in points on the strength of two early season victories in Ocala, Fla.

Like Grant, C.J. Leary has reached the peak at Terre Haute in USAC competition, but not yet in a sprint car.* In 2016, the Greenfield, Indiana native picked up a “Sumar Classic” Silver Crown victory and has been a perennial frontrunner in that event.* He recently finished fifth in this year’s edition and is looking to break through for his first USAC National Sprint Car win of the year following a banner year in 2017 in which he earned a career-high fiv wins.

Jerry Coons, Jr. is one of three multiple-time “Hulman Classic” winners entered for Terre Haute, bagging that crown in 2010 and 2013.* The Tucson, Arizona native, and one of six USAC Triple Crown champs, returns to action in the Krockenberger Racing No. 21K.

Chase Stockon, fifth in the standings, finished third in last year’s “Hulman,” coming up just three laps short of the win after leading the first 27 laps of the 30-lap feature.* You can count on the Fort Branch, Indiana driver being one of the contenders yet again this Wednesday.* After all, he is a past USAC National Sprint Car winner at Terre Haute back in 2016 at the “Don Smith Classic.”*

Hanford, California’s Chad Boespflug resides 10th in the standings, and has come close to winning at Terre Haute twice with a pair of runner-up finishes in two of his last three USAC Sprint Car appearances there.

The “Tony Hulman Classic” began in 1971 and is the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car division’s longest-running annually-contested event.* George Snider was victorious in the first edition.* Other winners over the years include, just to name a few, Joe Saldana, Gary Bettenhausen, Pancho Carter, Jan Opperman, Sheldon Kinser, Jack Hewitt, Ron Shuman, Rich Vogler, Steve Butler, Doug Kalitta, J.J. Yeley, Tracy Hines, Jon Stanbrough Cory Kruseman, plus the only three-time winners of the event: Cary Faas and Levi Jones.

USAC's "The Week of Indy" begins at the Terre Haute Action Track on Wednesday, May 23.* The “Tony Hulman Classic” will feature the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car tour and the Scott's Custom Colors UMP DIRTcar Modifieds.

Terre Haute pits are scheduled to open at 3pm, grandstands at 4pm, hot laps at 6:30pm, and racing action is scheduled to begin at 8pm.* General admission tickets for the “Tony Hulman Classic” will be sold at the gate for $25 on raceday.* Infield tickets are also available for $15, while children 11 and under are free.

Tickets can be obtained by calling Track Enterprises at 217-764-3200 or at the gate on raceday.* A three-day special Superticket for the full week of Indy including the “Tony Hulman Classic” at the Terre Haute Action Track on Wednesday, May 23, the “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday, May 24 and the “Dave Steele Carb Night Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway on Friday, May 25 is also available at https://usacracing.ticketspice.com/2018-week-of-indy.
