Veteran Newell Tops Midway Main/Jackson Grabs Modified Win

Lebanon,Mo.-With cool overcast skies,101 race temas checked into the LebanonMidwaySpeedway Friday Night for an action packed racing card.
The Superstocks took to the fast tacky track with Jody Saultz grabbing the early lead as points runner-up JC Newell followed closely.Larry Prewett,Donnie Gennigs,Rick Brown all battled for position behind the leaders.Point leader and last weeks winner tony Jackson Jr would start the 15 lapper back in 11th and was picking his way to the front.With Saultz working the low groove,The Gentle Giant,JC Newell was making the top groove work while the battle for third was just as good between Brown,Gennings and Prewett back and forth.Jackson broke free in open track on lap 7 and began his charge to the front.Saultz,nicknamed the Camdenton Laker because his his color scheme,continued to click off laps looking for his first win of the season as Newell stayed upstairs wating for the right time to make his move.On lap 13,Newell shot hard upstairs going into turn 2 as he pulled along side the leader Saultz,behind this battle,Jackson was moving through the field and into the top 5.Up front,Newell overtook Saulta going down the backstretch and grabbed the lead heading for the final lap,while behind the lead duo,Gennings,Prewett,and Jackson were battling hard.As the checkered flew,crowd favorite Newell grabbed his first ever Midway feature followed closely by early leader Saultz,point leader Jackson Jr,Prewett, and Gennings."I'm still having fun exclaimed the long time area veteran Newell."These young guns have alot of horsepower and good equipment with them and it's a challange for an old timer such as myself,but the track had a good top groove inturns 1&2 and Jody ran me clean.It's nice to grab that checkered flag here at Midway and to her the crowd's response really meant alot to me."
The Modified feature threw caution just as fast as it started as Jimmy Willis and Eric Hudson brought the field down to the green,but Steve Muilenburgs car came to a halt in turn 2 ending his night.On the restart,Hudson grabbed the top spot as Jackson Jr,point leader Jamie Ragland,Kevin Halderman ans Willis battling hard.Fast moving Jason Russell's night ended after moving front 19th on the start to the top 12 as he pulled into infield.Russell and the crew had a long evening as while leading the heat,he lost a driveshaft which they replaced.With Hudson heading the pack,lap 4 proved costly as he got to low in turn 2 and allowed Jackson to shoot past along with Ragland and Halderman.A lap 9 incident bunched the field up as Brian Borwn ended up as part of the frontstetch fence after catching the wall.Brown was able to walk away unhurt.On the restart,Jackson and point leader Ragland began the battle for the top spot as Halderman and Hudson were side by side for third place.The real drive was back in the rear as Points runner-up Wayne Graybeal had worked on the car during the red,forcing him to restart 15th on the field.Up front Jackson and Ragland stayed close,but Jackson held off a late surge to grab his third Modified win of the season followed closely by Ragland,Halderman,early leader Hudson and a great drive by Tim Brown at the stripe.
The FactoryStock Feature would see point leader Randy Berry jump to the early lead with Bobby Ratterree,Tim Brown,last weeks winner Todd Cook and Robbie Bryant following closely.Berry would lead until lap 6,when Brown shot the "Hot Rod Camaro" to the front.The front pack of 5 stayed close together as a second pack battling included Ron Myers,Sam Petty,Travis Hill,Paul Snyder,and others.
Up front Brown started to pull away,but Berry made a slick move down low in turn 4 to close-up on the leader.On lap 9,Bryant began his charge to the front picking off cars lap after lap.On lap 12 a caution flew putting Bryant right on Brown's bumper.On the restart,Bryant stayed close,but coming out of turn 2,Brown got a better bite and pulled ahead by 4 cars.Heading for the checkered flag,Matt Pilant and Glen Dismang got together as Brown grabbed the win followed closely by Bryant,Berry,Cook and Ratterree.
The Winged SprintCars would see Scott Wedelstadt grab the early lead with Steve Lawrence close behind.Point leader and last weeks winner Eric Todd was moving to the top groove and picking off cars 1 at a time.On lap 5,Eric moved around the lead three trio of Wedelstadt,Lawrence and Chris Dake as brother Clint started moving to the top groove also.Lap 6 would bunched the field up as Wedelstadt while battling with Lawrence spun in turn 1.On the restart,Eric again jumped to the lead with Clint now riding in second place.A lap 8 yellow for John Rowland bunched the group again as Rowland would restart at the rear.Eric Tood again charge out in front,but action slowed on lap 12 as Joe Todd flipped his car while trying to slow-up for a caution in turn 3.On the restart,John Rowland moved forward quickly coming from the back.Back in front,Eric Todd pulled away and grabbed the win followed by Clint Todd,Steve Lawrence,Rowland and Matt Tatro in the top 5.
The Bombers again provided close action as 20 cars took the green.Missy Shaw brought the field as the early leader.Steve Schulta making his first Bomber start,moved into contention along with Dusty Rhoades and point leader Mike Piercey.The battle up front was close as Aaron York closed-up to contend as the top 6 stayed bumper to bumper.Dusty Rhoades made a nice pass on the outsdie on lap 7 to take charge and started to pull away.1st year driver Tyler Brown made some strong moves to the front and quietly picked his way up the field moving by both York and Schultz late in the race to move into the runner-up spot.Out front,Rhoades would pull away as small raindrops fell on the speedway.As the checkered flew,Rhoades grabbed his 3rd win of the season followed closely by a fast moving Brown,Schultz,York and point leader Piercey as 17 of the 20 started were on the lead lap.
The min-Stock feature provided a great side-by-side finish.Tony Moore grabbed the early lead with Chuck Kidwell and point leader Dave Williams in a race so tight you could blanket the top 3.Moore would lead only to see Kidwell make a move to grab the top spot,then Williams.Heading for the checkered flag,Kidwell,then Williams would lead,but Moore used the lap traffic to grab the lead on the final lap in turn 3 to record his second win of the season.Kidwell,Williams,a fast moving Bryan Deatherage and last weeks winner Bobby Moore rounded out the top 5.
Next Weekend the Midway will host another double-header as Friday night will be a regular points show and Sat Night Aug.20th,The O'ReillAutoParts MLRA SuperLateModels Roar into town for a 40 lap feature.Modifieds,FactoryStocks,and Bombers will also be racing for extra money and bonus points.
