BARBERVILLE, FL – Fred Rahmer and Jeff Shepard both pulled into victory lane Wednesday night at Volusia Speedway Park after the Haulmark All Star sprint car 25 lap A main feature. Each driver thought they won race number two of the All Star season after a side-by-side finish. It was so close that All Star officials had to review a video of the finish, finally declaring Rahmer the winner by an eyelash over Shepard.

Rahmer led all 12-1/2 miles in the Harz Racing No. 88 Don Ott powered J&J and had a three car length lead over Shepard’s Apple Motorsports No. 12 with two laps to go, but Shepard made a valiant dive under the leader on the last lap for a side-by-side photo finish.

With Tuesday’s winner Terry McCarl starting from the pole and Rahmer alongside, Rahmer rocketed into the lead, entering lapped traffic by lap seven with McCarl, Shepard, sixth starting Craig Dollansky and Chad Kemenah trailing. As Rahmer built his lead blitzing by lapped cars, Shepard got past McCarl for a lap but the Iowa driver returned the favor on lap 10. Shepard got second for good a circuit later, with McCarl, Kemenah and Dollansky fighting tooth and nail for third.

Rahmer saw a half straightaway lead erased on lap 18 when Kevin Swindell spun after making contact with the machine of Mark Smith. Dean Jacobs suffered a flat tire on the restart, sending cars scrambling to get around him but luckily a big crash was avoided. For the second restart it was Rahmer followed by Shepard, Dollansky, Kemenah, Lance Dewease, Jac Haudenschild, Randy Hannagan and Jason Sides. Dollansky got past McCarl in the high groove to take over third when the green flew again as Rahmer took off to another nice lead over Shepard.

With Rahmer using the low groove and Shepard Jetting by on the high side, it looked like Rahmer had everything under control. Coming off the final turn, Rahmer slid high and Shepard went low and it was too close to call at the checkers.

Dollansky ended up third, followed by McCarl, Kemenah, Dewease and Haudenschild. Sides, 15th starter Shane Stewart and Greg Hodnett completed the top ten finishers.

The Crown Battery heat fell to Sammy Swindell, the B&B Products heat went to Cameron Dodson, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Jason Solwold and the TP Wings heat fell to Jason Johnson.
