West Plains, MO (May 27th, 2006) – After finishing in the second spot in the 2005 edition of the O’Reilly Show Me 100, Wendell Wallace from Batesville, Arkansas set his sights on the 2006 crown as his course of redemption. At the conclusion of Saturday night’s festivities for the 14th Annual O’Reilly Show Me 100, Wallace clinched redemption in his hands, as well as a $40,000 check, after he topped the 100 lap feature event.
Brad Neat from Dunnville, Kentucky and Terry Phillips from Springfield, Missouri made up the front row for the feature event. At the drop of the green flag, Neat jumped to the lead as Wallace moved from his third starting position into the second spot with Phillips, Justin Wells, and Tim McCreadie in tow. Wallace would use a strong run on the bottom to take the lead from Neat exiting turn two on lap 2. However, the pass would be all for not as caution flew for Steve Rushin, who got turned around in turn three. During the caution period third place runner, Terry Phillips, would unexpectedly duck into the pits. Before the race resumed green flag action, Phillips, and Rushin would both rejoin the tail of the field.
With the Delaware double file restarts in effect for the event, the field was racked and stacked with Neat at the point, Wallace in second, Justin Wells in third, Tim McCreadie in fourth, and Jack Sullivan in fifth. On the restart, the Missouri crowd came to their feet as Show Me state driver, Justin Wells, rocketed to the high side and took the lead from Brad Neat heading down the back straight away. Wells jumped out to a two car length lead as Neat and Wallace began to battle side by side for the second position.
The caution flag flew again on lap four for Jack Sullivan, who rolled to a stop in turn four. Sullivan would briefly head pitside and rejoin the tail of the field as would Shannon Babb. At the time of the lap four caution drivers were already making hard charges to the front including 21st and 22nd starters, Scott Bloomquist and Jeff Taylor, who resided in 14th and 15th respectively.
On the restart Wells once again jumped out to a slim advantage as Wallace and Neat continued to battle door to door for the second spot. Wallace finally took over sole possession of the second spot entering turn one on lap five. Another driver on the move was eighth starter, Bill Frye, who took over the fourth spot from Tim McCreadie on lap eight as the pair exited turn three.
By lap 11, Bloomquist and Taylor’s march saw the pair up to the tenth and eleventh positions respectively as the duo began to battle for position. Frye overtook Neat on lap 12 to assume possession of the third position. Ronnie Dehaven Jr. was also on the move taking fifth place from McCreadie on lap twelve and fourth from Neat on lap 13. The race would be slowed again on lap fourteen when Tim McCreadie rolled to a stop with a flat right rear tire. McCreadie headed pitside for fresh rubber, as the field lined up double file for the restart. The top five at the time of the caution consisted of Wells, Wallace, Frye, Dehaven Jr., and Neat.
On the ensuing restart, Wells and Wallace began to battle side by side for the lead as Dehaven Jr. and Frye began a wild battle for the third spot. Three wide racing was present throughout the field as the track began to show three viable grooves. Dehaven Jr. took over the third position from Frye exiting turn four on lap 16 with Bloomquist moving up to 7th. Lap 18 would see Bill Frye catch a major break when he looped his mount in turn two. Even though Frye spun, he never stopped rolling and quickly regrouped. Frye would lose several positions, but before a lap could be completed Brian Birkhofer would roll to a stop in turn two with mechanical woes. Birkhofer was credited with the caution and Frye was given his fourth spot back with the lineup reverting to the previously completed lap.
With 18 laps complete, Wells still maintained the lead with Wallace, Dehaven Jr., Frye, and Don O’Neal making up the top five. On the restart Wells and Wallace continued to wage war for the lead with Scott Bloomquist racing past O’Neal for the fifth spot on lap 20. Frye would crack into the third spot again on lap 22 exiting turn four. Another driver on the move was Terry Phillips, who had charged from dead last up to ninth position by lap 26. Lap 27 found Wells and Wendell Wallace side by side and dead even for the lead. The pair battled door to door for the next six laps before Wallace surged ahead to take the lead on lap 33. Back in the pack, Terry Phillips continued his charge to the front, taking over the seventh position from Skip Arp heading down the back straightaway on lap 34.
Back up front the leaders began encountering lapped traffic on lap 35 as Wallace started to creep away from the field. The next several laps would see great battles throughout the field as the race endured a lengthy green flag run. At the race’s midway point, the top five consisted of Wallace, Wells, Frye, Dehaven Jr., and Bloomquist. McCreadie would retire on lap 57 and Jack Sullivan would call it a night on lap 59.
By lap 60 Bloomquist and Dehaven Jr. were engaged in a battle for the fourth position with Bloomquist taking over the spot on lap 64. Dehaven Jr.’s strong performance came to an end on lap 65 when he unexpectedly pulled to the infield. With Wallace on cruise control at the front of the field, the focus on the track was the incredible battle for the fifth spot between Jeff Taylor, Terry Phillips, and Skip Arp. The trio raced two and three wide from laps 65 to 74 before Arp came out on top with the fifth position in his possession. As this trio staged a great battle, Steve Rushin, who went tailback after the lap two incident cracked into the top ten.
Frye had caught second place runner, Wells, by lap 74 and on lap 82 Frye made the pass to take over the second position. A few laps later, Bloomquist would catch Wells as the duo began to fight for the third spot. Bloomquist would apply heavy pressure until lap 97 when he finally passed Wells. At the front of the pack Wallace cruised to the $40,000 payday and his second O’Reilly Show Me 100 title. Bill Frye (started 8th), Scott Bloomquist (started 21st), Justin Wells (started 7th), Skip Arp (started 11th), Terry Phillips (started 2nd), Jeff Taylor (started 22nd), Steve Rushin (started 8th), Shannon Babb (started 12th), and Rick Eckert (started 24th) rounded out the top ten.
Brad Neat (Dunnville, KY), Terry Phillips (Springfield, MO), Wendell Wallace (Batesville, AR), Tim McCreadie (Watertown, NY), Jack Sullivan (Greenbriar, AR), and Ronnie Dehaven Jr (Winchester, VA topped the heat race action on Friday night. Chris Madden from Grays Creek, South Carolina was the GRT Top Qualifier in Friday night’s time trial action after he turned in the best time among the 93 Super Late Models from 23 states. He received $1,800 courtesy of GRT Race Cars in Greenbriar, AR for his efforts.
In Saturday night, consolation race action Chris Madden, Shane Clanton, and Scott Bloomquist claimed the wins. Raymond Merrill won the Manufacturer’s Dash on Saturday night, and Billy Moyer won the Champion’s Dash.

West Plains, MO (May 27th, 2006) – After finishing in the second spot in the 2005 edition of the O’Reilly Show Me 100, Wendell Wallace from Batesville, Arkansas set his sights on the 2006 crown as his course of redemption. At the conclusion of Saturday night’s festivities for the 14th Annual O’Reilly Show Me 100, Wallace clinched redemption in his hands, as well as a $40,000 check, after he topped the 100 lap feature event.
Brad Neat from Dunnville, Kentucky and Terry Phillips from Springfield, Missouri made up the front row for the feature event. At the drop of the green flag, Neat jumped to the lead as Wallace moved from his third starting position into the second spot with Phillips, Justin Wells, and Tim McCreadie in tow. Wallace would use a strong run on the bottom to take the lead from Neat exiting turn two on lap 2. However, the pass would be all for not as caution flew for Steve Rushin, who got turned around in turn three. During the caution period third place runner, Terry Phillips, would unexpectedly duck into the pits. Before the race resumed green flag action, Phillips, and Rushin would both rejoin the tail of the field.
With the Delaware double file restarts in effect for the event, the field was racked and stacked with Neat at the point, Wallace in second, Justin Wells in third, Tim McCreadie in fourth, and Jack Sullivan in fifth. On the restart, the Missouri crowd came to their feet as Show Me state driver, Justin Wells, rocketed to the high side and took the lead from Brad Neat heading down the back straight away. Wells jumped out to a two car length lead as Neat and Wallace began to battle side by side for the second position.
The caution flag flew again on lap four for Jack Sullivan, who rolled to a stop in turn four. Sullivan would briefly head pitside and rejoin the tail of the field as would Shannon Babb. At the time of the lap four caution drivers were already making hard charges to the front including 21st and 22nd starters, Scott Bloomquist and Jeff Taylor, who resided in 14th and 15th respectively.
On the restart Wells once again jumped out to a slim advantage as Wallace and Neat continued to battle door to door for the second spot. Wallace finally took over sole possession of the second spot entering turn one on lap five. Another driver on the move was eighth starter, Bill Frye, who took over the fourth spot from Tim McCreadie on lap eight as the pair exited turn three.
By lap 11, Bloomquist and Taylor’s march saw the pair up to the tenth and eleventh positions respectively as the duo began to battle for position. Frye overtook Neat on lap 12 to assume possession of the third position. Ronnie Dehaven Jr. was also on the move taking fifth place from McCreadie on lap twelve and fourth from Neat on lap 13. The race would be slowed again on lap fourteen when Tim McCreadie rolled to a stop with a flat right rear tire. McCreadie headed pitside for fresh rubber, as the field lined up double file for the restart. The top five at the time of the caution consisted of Wells, Wallace, Frye, Dehaven Jr., and Neat.
On the ensuing restart, Wells and Wallace began to battle side by side for the lead as Dehaven Jr. and Frye began a wild battle for the third spot. Three wide racing was present throughout the field as the track began to show three viable grooves. Dehaven Jr. took over the third position from Frye exiting turn four on lap 16 with Bloomquist moving up to 7th. Lap 18 would see Bill Frye catch a major break when he looped his mount in turn two. Even though Frye spun, he never stopped rolling and quickly regrouped. Frye would lose several positions, but before a lap could be completed Brian Birkhofer would roll to a stop in turn two with mechanical woes. Birkhofer was credited with the caution and Frye was given his fourth spot back with the lineup reverting to the previously completed lap.
With 18 laps complete, Wells still maintained the lead with Wallace, Dehaven Jr., Frye, and Don O’Neal making up the top five. On the restart Wells and Wallace continued to wage war for the lead with Scott Bloomquist racing past O’Neal for the fifth spot on lap 20. Frye would crack into the third spot again on lap 22 exiting turn four. Another driver on the move was Terry Phillips, who had charged from dead last up to ninth position by lap 26. Lap 27 found Wells and Wendell Wallace side by side and dead even for the lead. The pair battled door to door for the next six laps before Wallace surged ahead to take the lead on lap 33. Back in the pack, Terry Phillips continued his charge to the front, taking over the seventh position from Skip Arp heading down the back straightaway on lap 34.
Back up front the leaders began encountering lapped traffic on lap 35 as Wallace started to creep away from the field. The next several laps would see great battles throughout the field as the race endured a lengthy green flag run. At the race’s midway point, the top five consisted of Wallace, Wells, Frye, Dehaven Jr., and Bloomquist. McCreadie would retire on lap 57 and Jack Sullivan would call it a night on lap 59.
By lap 60 Bloomquist and Dehaven Jr. were engaged in a battle for the fourth position with Bloomquist taking over the spot on lap 64. Dehaven Jr.’s strong performance came to an end on lap 65 when he unexpectedly pulled to the infield. With Wallace on cruise control at the front of the field, the focus on the track was the incredible battle for the fifth spot between Jeff Taylor, Terry Phillips, and Skip Arp. The trio raced two and three wide from laps 65 to 74 before Arp came out on top with the fifth position in his possession. As this trio staged a great battle, Steve Rushin, who went tailback after the lap two incident cracked into the top ten.
Frye had caught second place runner, Wells, by lap 74 and on lap 82 Frye made the pass to take over the second position. A few laps later, Bloomquist would catch Wells as the duo began to fight for the third spot. Bloomquist would apply heavy pressure until lap 97 when he finally passed Wells. At the front of the pack Wallace cruised to the $40,000 payday and his second O’Reilly Show Me 100 title. Bill Frye (started 8th), Scott Bloomquist (started 21st), Justin Wells (started 7th), Skip Arp (started 11th), Terry Phillips (started 2nd), Jeff Taylor (started 22nd), Steve Rushin (started 8th), Shannon Babb (started 12th), and Rick Eckert (started 24th) rounded out the top ten.
Brad Neat (Dunnville, KY), Terry Phillips (Springfield, MO), Wendell Wallace (Batesville, AR), Tim McCreadie (Watertown, NY), Jack Sullivan (Greenbriar, AR), and Ronnie Dehaven Jr (Winchester, VA topped the heat race action on Friday night. Chris Madden from Grays Creek, South Carolina was the GRT Top Qualifier in Friday night’s time trial action after he turned in the best time among the 93 Super Late Models from 23 states. He received $1,800 courtesy of GRT Race Cars in Greenbriar, AR for his efforts.
In Saturday night, consolation race action Chris Madden, Shane Clanton, and Scott Bloomquist claimed the wins. Raymond Merrill won the Manufacturer’s Dash on Saturday night, and Billy Moyer won the Champion’s Dash.
