MIDLOTHIAN, Texas (March 12) – What might be the busiest little engine building shop in Texas is title sponsor for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car portion of the inaugural Lone Star Series.
WCH Engines will provide the $1,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in standings for the tour. The business is owned by Jammie Wells, who’s seen a growing number of IMCA drivers added to his customer base.
“I didn’t plan to build race engines exclusively when I started this business five years ago but that’s what we’re on the verge of,” he said. “We’ve been working from eight in the morning ‘til 10 at night the last month. Guys are picking their engines up as fast as we can get them done.”
“We build engines for all the IMCA divisions. The Southern SportMods are a huge class for us,” Wells continued. “I think affordability and dependability are two of the biggest reasons why we’re so busy.”
Wells began learning the tricks of the trade as a teenager, working for Wayne Wallace at Texas Cylinder Heads. He built engines for 15 years before opening WCH and was enthusiastic about sponsoring the series for Stock Cars.
“I was ready to jump on board pretty quick,” said Wells. “A lot of the Lone Star Series drivers are already our customers and this title sponsorship is a great opportunity for us to get our name out to more of them who aren’t.”
Information about WCH-built engines is available by calling Wells as 972 723-5115 and at the wchengines.com website.
"Jammie and I have talked a number of times about developing a partnership and the opportunity with the Lone Star Series came about at just the right time,” said IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “His enthusiasm is contagious and a great endorsement of IMCA racing in the State of Texas."
Lone Star Series dates for Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Southern SportMods at Abilene and Kennedale are already in the record book.
The tour travels to 281 Speedway at Stephenville on March 13, then to Boyd Raceway on April 17 and Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco on May 29 before the finale at Texas Thunder Speedway in Killeen on July 3.
