(Grand Junction, CO) The Western Dirt Racing Association will wrap up the 2007 season with the 'Emory Hooker' Memorial Race. This event will pay $1500 to the winner, and $200 to start the feature! Our 2007 series champion will also be crowned, with Jeep Berry holding a 61 point lead over last year's champion Dean Moore. Curt Daniels, Mike McGinn, and Jason Davis round out the top five.
The last event of the WDRA 2007 season is coming up on Saturday September 29th at Thunder Mountain Speedway and while some might find this to be just another race, some people will find this race is a way to memorialize one of the biggest supporters of Western Slope racing to ever grace the region.

Emery Hooker came from the old school, tracks like Cactus Park in Grand Junction and Delta Speedway in Delta CO. or Moab Raceway in Moab Utah, when the Utah Colorado Racing Body was around. Either way he was there and everyone knew it because he took the time to go up to each driver to talk and do a little bench racing or just give the much needed word of advice.

Last year Emery was wondering the pits, talking to friends like so many years before but he never made it to the end of the pits, he suffered a major heart attack and was gone just that quick. Emery had lost his lovely wife to cancer some time before but he continued to follow racing when he could.

He and his son David got into drag racing where again he had a major impact on every life he touched. Emery was the biggest Dale Sr. fan you could find, and he loved the greatest football team on the planet, the Denver Broncos.

From the inception of the WDRA he was a huge supporter of its staff, its drivers, and the fans and in his honor at the end of each season the “Emery Hooker Memorial Race” will be the last race run saving the best, for the last. The WDRA Staff and drivers are better people to have known Emery and racing as a whole is just a bit lesser in the loss of this great, great man.

If you or anyone you know can make the show on the 29th of this month make time to do so and when you’re there take time to listen, Emery may have some advice or a set-up trick for you and your crew still to this day.

This race promises to be an exciting affair, with cooler weather and a wet week helping to make for a very racy track. Thunder Mountain Speedway is 5 miles south of Delta, CO on U.S. Hwy 50, about 60 minutes south of Grand Junction.
