Lebanon,Mo.-Iowa's Gary Webb is known for his smooth driving style and the former 2 time UMP National champion and former Nascar Weekly Racing Series National Champion showed the crowd just how smooth he is as he pulled off a last lap pass over leader Justin Wells to become the 1st repeat LateModel feature winner this season at the I-44 Speedway Sat night by recording a half a car length victory at the line.

The LateModel feature would see 1988 Champion and points contender Darrell Mooneyham shoot from his front row starting spot to take the lead and pull away early as Keith Mellen followed early.Row 2 starters Justin Wells and Webb were battling early as they began trying different lanes on the track. With Mooneyham checking out,Wells and Webb were really putting on a show for the runner-up spot as both were working two different lines around the 3/8ths mile clay oval.Mooneyham had drove to as much as a 15 car length lead when he began to catch lapped traffic. While Darrell was setting a quick pace,Wells found the bottom groove to his liking and began to reel Mooneyham in with Webb using a higher line to come through also_On lap 17,Wells had closed the gap up to about 5 car lengths and was coming strong while Mooneyham was working the traffic. On lap 19 the yellow waved for Danny Atkinson's car as smoke rolled out of it as Atkinson was able to safely pull to the pits.On the restart,Mooneyham moved to the middle groove while Wells moved upstairs to apply the pressure with Webb following. On lap 21,Wells put his racer into the lead coming out of turn 2 while Webb followed closely. On lap 22,Webb went to the bottom of the track and was putting on pressure to leader Wells as he stayed up stairs. With the white flag waving,Webb shot to the inside of Wells as the duo raced side-by-side.Wells took the lead back out of turn 2 and Webb was right to the inside of him.Heading into turn 3,Webb and his Liftruck Services/GRT nosed ahead as Wells pulled even going into turn 4.Coming out of 4,Webb and Wells were even and Webb found a bit more bite on the bottom of the track and nipped Wells at the line by less than half-a-car length to record his second consectutive feature win at I-44 and third carrer victory on the high-banks.Following the lead dou to the line was early leader Mooneyham who had a tough battle with Steve Oerly for third,Oerly and LeRoy Johnson in the top 5.

"We had won a feature in the northern part of the state last night and were watching the weather.Trying to decided whether it was going to rain out our scheduled special in Iowa,I rolled the dice again this weekend to see were to race at and looks like maybe I picked right" quoted Webb as he recieved a standing ovation from the crowd for his clean driving style."This Wells kid has alot of talent and that race was alot of fun.All night long I had been working the high-side,but I saw Justin make alot of ground-up in the feature on the bottom,so when he went high,I decided to win I was going to try the low groove. The track had 2 strong racing lanes in it tonight and is alot of fun to race at.

In the Modified feature,Eric Lampe was able to work his way to the front on lap 2 and take over the lead from Eddie Horn with defending champion Erik Maggard following through along with point leader Eric Hudson. With Lampe in charge,Maggard began a mid race charge on Lampe as Hudson and Keith Branson battled for third. The yellow waved on lap 10 and on the restart,Maggard made the winning move on Lampe to record his third feature win of the season followed closely by Lampe,Hudson,Branson and Steve Martin at the stripe.

In SuperStock action,Rick Brown jumped out to a big lead early attempting to end Larry Prewitt's 5 race winning streak, but on lap 7 Brown's car showed serious sighns of smoke and taking him out of contention and giving the lead to Prewitt. From there Prewitt put it on cruise control to claim his 6th feature win of the season leaving a great battle behind him as Josh Woody claimed the runner-up spot followed by Dave Bozich,Jeff Bristol, and Tim Petty at the stripe.

The FactoryStock feature was another wild affair as Kevin Brown jumped from his front row starting spot to take the early lead with Steve Schultz in pursuit along with KC Prettyman, point leader Micheal Maggard, last weeks winner Hobie Johnson, and others.Brown was looking to become the tracks 6th different winner when a flat tire on the right rear would drop him out of contention on lap 8 as Steve Schultz had looped the second place car on lap 7 bringing out a yellow. With Brown out of action, point leader Micheal Maggard assumed the top spot with Hobie Johnson right on his bumper. As the white waved,Johnson made a powere move to the outside taking the lead, but Maggard used an inside move to gather the top spot back and claim his first win of the season followed closely by Johnson,Schultz,a 19th place starting Roger Flood and Willie Wilson at the line.

JP Compton used his front row starting spot and led all 15 laps of the Sprint Car feature as Joe Todd,Terry Moore,Scott Wedelstadt, and Matt Tatro followed as musical chairs was being played for second through seventh on the final laps as contenders John Rowland,Eric Todd fell be the wayside with problems late in the race.Comptom became the 4th different driver to win a Sprint feature at I-44 this season.

The Bombers had a wild feature as Greg Potter took the early lead until around lap 5 when Brandon Knutdson made a smooth move to take the lead and then held off a strong charge late from Justin Foust in recording his first win of the season.

Several hard crashes in the Bomber feature took out several good runs including Lonnie Henderson who ended up on his lid after battle for position on a restart while challanging for 4th place, early leader Potter and Rodney Jones wrecked while battling for posistion on lap 12.All drivers were alright.Following the lead duo of Knutdson and Foust to the line were point leader KC Prettyman,Richard Weber, and Bud Pursley in the top 5.
Racing resumes next Sat Night with the regular points show as the gates open at 5 with racing at 7:30 sharp.
