(Batesville, AR) Wendell Wallace Autosports had a nightmare weekend, instead of dream weekend, this past Saturday at the $100,000 to win Dream 100 held at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH. After persistent rains forced qualifying to be postponed from Friday night until early Saturday afternoon, Wendell and the team unloaded one of their J&J Steel / MSE Distributing #88 GRT Ford Taurus’ at the famed ½-mile speedplant in west-central Ohio. The car struggled right out of the box, as Wendell could not get the car up to speed during both of his qualifying efforts.

The team had to start at the back of their heat race and that is when things turned from bad to worse. In the early laps of the heat race, the number 5 car of Brooke Phillips got into the turn one wall and Wendell had no time to react behind him. Wendell made hard contact with the 5 car and sustained heavy front and rear end damage. Needless to say, the #88 was done for the night, but Wendell would walk away from the incident unscathed.

“This is the way our whole year has gone,” said car owner and GRT founder Joe Garrison from the team’s shop on Monday night. “Wendell just didn’t have any place to go and we got torn up pretty bad. The car is pretty messed up, but I think it is salvageable. We will just try to keep throwing things at these cars to get them better and hopefully we can have a better weekend this coming weekend at Batesville and West Plains.”

The team will be back in action this Friday night at Batesville Speedway in Batesville, AR for a $3,000 to win MARS-sanctioned event. Wendell Wallace Autosports will then travel north to the West Plains Motor Speedway for another $3,000 to win MARS show at the racy oval in West Plains, MO. Keep up with Wendell and his team all year long at their official site, www.wendellwallace.com.
