(Batesville, AR) Wendell Wallace Autosports continues their 2003 campaign this weekend when they travel to the MARS-sanctioned events at Tulsa Speedway in Tulsa, OK on Friday night and Wheatland Raceway in Wheatland, MO the following night. Both MARS shows will pay the winner $3,000 for their efforts. The team was hoping to hit the big $40,000 to win USA Outlaw Nationals this weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI, but they are going to stay around home to finish one of their cars.
“It doesn’t look like we are going to be able to make it up to Cedar Lake,” said GRT owner Joe Garrison today. “We are trying to finish rebuilding the car that was nearly totaled in the heat race wreck at Eldora for the upcoming Topless 100. We are really gearing up for that race, which is in a couple of weeks (August 14-16), because we want to win it again bad.”
Wendell is coming off a good weekend that was highlighted by a strong second place performance in the $3,000 to win MARS show Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, OK on Saturday night. He won his heat race in the J&J Steel / MSE Distributing #88 GRT Ford Taurus and started third in the main event. Wendell was able to pick up second place late in the event. The previous night, the team was in competition at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK. The #88 started sixteenth in the field, but was up to the 5th spot by lap 8. Wendell took over second place on lap 18, but he got the worst end of an on-track incident with another competitor and started fading back through the field. He eventually pulled in and had to settle for an ultra-disappointing 19th place finish.
