(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) Wendell Wallace picked up his first victory of the season last weekend, but it was not in his familiar Dirt Late Model. Wendell reached victory lane last Saturday night in his #88 GRT modified and earned a cool $9,000 for doing so. The win came at the Mid-America Modified Championship, which was held at the 3/8-mile, red clay oval of Batesville Speedway in Locust Grove, AR. That makes two strong finishes in the modified for Wendell, as he also finished third two weekends ago in the Justin Stanfill Memorial Modified special at West Plains (MO) Speedway.

The team made a late decision to attend the event last weekend at Batesville, as they were scheduled to make the trip to Volunteer (TN) Speedway for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event. However, Wendell has made the tough decision to back out of the “Dirty Dozen” and not follow the World of Outlaw Late Model Series on a full-time basis.

“We are unfortunately not going to be able to run the whole World of Outlaw deal this year,” said Wendell from his shop. “It is just me and “Little Man” right now and it is awful hard to travel across the country every week racing like that. I like the direction the World of Outlaw guys are going, but we just can’t follow it this year. We are going to scale back a little bit and run some regional shows along with all of the major shows like we always have. We are also going to run our modified whenever we get the chance; there are a lot of good paying modified shows that we may hit throughout the season.”

Wendell and “Little Man” will be bringing out their J&J Steel / JFR Graphics / Garrett Racing #88 GRT / Keith Craft Ford Taurus late model this weekend when they travel to the Columbus Speedway for the 12th annual James King Memorial. Late model qualifying and heat races roll off on the Columbus, MS speed plant this Friday night. The consolation events and the 64-lap, $12,000 to win James King Memorial event is on tap for Saturday. You can learn more about this event by logging on to www.midsouthracing.com.
