Hartford, KY native Jimmy Westerfield was able to take home the Diamond J Trucking Extreme Modified Mania 30 feature event win on Sunday night at Windy Hollow Speedway which paid $5,000 to win.

Westerfield, a multi UMP Modified Kentucky State Champion as well as a multi time Windy Hollow Speedway champion was able to rack up feature win #199 of his career driving the Roger O’Bryan owned Larry Shaw Race Car powered by a GM602 Crate Motor.

The weekend started off on Saturday with Westerfield clocking in with the 2nd fast time during the single lap qualifying behind Will Krup of Mt. Carmel, IL. Westerfield was able to pick up one of the heat race events on Saturday which was used to set the starting grid for the $5,000 to win UMP Limited Modified event. Other heat race winners were Will Krup, Jonathon Smith and Bryce Jewell.

At the start of the event Westerfield gained command of the event followed closely by Bryce Jewell of Madisonville, KY and Clayton Miller of Elkton, KY. Jewell and Westerfield battled for the lead with slight contact in turn 2 which collected Clayton Miller causing a right front flat on his car. Miller would go pit side and have the tire replaced and rejoin the tail of the 22 car field. Jewell and Westerfield would stay nose to tail and swapping the lead often during the event that was plagued by numerous cautions.

As the race wound down a pair of cars were sneaking their way thru the field quietly and virtually unnoticed until the closing laps of the event. Jonathon Smith of Beaver Dam, KY who currently sits 3rd in National Points had suffered 2 flats during the event and was forced to the rear of the field both times made some noise as the two to go signal was given blasting around Jewell into the 2nd position. Jewell would hold on to capture the 3rd position followed by Clayton Miller and Junior Baize of Central City, KY.

“This was a fun race on the type of track I love, smooth and slick” Westerfield said in victory lane in a crowd of nearly 100 friends and family gathered for the photo op.

“There was $5,000 on the line and everyone wanted it and we all knew there would be hard racing and only one winner when the race was over” Westerfield commented.

Westerfield who had only been behind the wheel of the winning race car 3 times before the weekends event picked up the largest victory of his career on one of the tracks he started his driving career back in the lower divisions in the late 80’s.
