Burlington, Iowa (May 5) – When the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders make their inaugural visit to the Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, May 6, many of the series regulars will be visiting the Logan County Fairgrounds ¼-mile for the first time. That will not be the case for Springfield, Ill. youngster Korey Weyant as he enters the event as the defending Non-Winged champion at Lincoln.

“They’re coming to a track that I know,” stated Weyent, who currently sits fourth in the Sprint Invaders standings. “It’s pretty much a new track and not too many people know it like we do. If I can draw a good pill, I hope I can have some good luck.”

The fourth-generation driver comes from a racing family that includes his Great-Grandfather and former midget competitor, Rube, his Grandfather Gene, his uncles Chuck and Tony, and his father Scott. Tony and Scott’s resumes included starts at Joe Shaheen’s “Little Springfield” Speedway. Chuck Weyant made four Indianapolis 500 starts from 1955-59, earning a best finish of 12th in the 1955 running of the Memorial Day Classic.

As his father approached the end of his driving career, the decision was made to focus on young Korey.
A fourth-place showing in the season opener and another strong run in Donnellson put the Weyant team fourth in the points at this early stage in the season.

“We’ve just had a good program since the year started,” commented Weyant. “We just started to figure out the car. We had all last season to learn, now we know how the car will react to the changes that we make.”

Weyant’s 1997 Eagle chassis is sponsored by Goldesberry Signs and Designs and Mr. Frosty’s Snow Removal, with power supplied from Automotive Machine in Pekin, Ill. Team Weyant includes Scott Weyant (Crew
Chief) and mother Mary Jo, and crew members Mike Wilson and Paul Campbell. Weyant wishes a special thanks to his grandparents, sisters Amanda and Sami, and his daughter Gabrielle. Even at the tender age of 21, Weyant is a “veteran” of seven Chili Bowl appearances, numerous Micro Sprint and Quarter Midget victories, including the 2002 Pike County Nationals, along with earning Rookie of the Year honors with the Sprint Invaders in 2005.

Macomb, Illinois’ Matt Sutton leads the point standings after his victory at Lee County Speedway.
The rest of the top ten entering the Lincoln event include Iowa drivers Jeff Mitrisin, John Schulz, Nick Eastin, 2002 champion Ryan Jamison, Dave Anderson, and Justin Newberry, Auckland, New Zealand’s Stevie Walsh, and Stronghurst, Illinois’ Brian Hetrick.
