Lincoln, Ill. (May 1) – Korey Weyent and Randy Bateman led twenty-one starters to the green flag and twenty laps later, Weyent had his first win of 2005 and second at Lincoln Speedway. The race was slowed by two red flags. Lance Gullo was eliminated after getting together with Bill Waite, Jr. on the opening turn. Waite, Jr.’s night went from bad to worse as he tumbled in a three-car tangle at the race’s half-way point. Both were uninjured. Weyent held off Chad Branson over the final ten lap run while Bret Tripplett, Allen Gilles, and A. J. Bruns rounded out the top five. Weyent and Bateman won the Heat Races.

The UMP Modifieds completed a caution-free 20-lapper. Early race leader Kelly Kovski gave way to Jeff Leka on lap 6 and Leka led the rest of the way to claim his first Lincoln win of 2005. Gary Turpin and Curt Rhodes followed, while Blake Buchholz came home with a career-best fifth place finish. Kovski, Leka, and Turpin won in Heat Race action, while Matt Wilson won the Consolation Race.

Doug McKenrick made his first Lincoln appearance a memorable one as he swept the Street Stock portion of the evening. McKenrick held off early challenger Jim Farley and later defending champ Jim Quinn. Quinn settled for the runner-up spot, while Larry Russell, Jr., Terry Miller, and Lance Johnson ended the event in the top five. Farley, Miller, and McKenrick won the Heats, while Roy Magee paced the Consolation Event.

Joe Zrostlik dominated the Wild Thing 15-lapper. Last week’s winner, J. R. Eskew, held off Thomas Cabral for second, while Rick and Tony Eads followed in the top five. Eskew, Zrostlik, Tony Eads, and Cabral won the Heat Races. Matt Beadles and Elmer Well topped a pair of Consolation Races.

The CEFCU Car Show rolls into town at the Logan County Fairgrounds next week. The Sunday evening card will feature Late Models, Illini Midgets, 600cc Outlaw Mini Sprints, and Classic Modifieds for a $12.00 grandstand admission price. Hot Laps begin at 4pm with racing to follow promptly at 5pm.
