SO I POSE A QUESTION TO ALL OFFICIALS AT MACON SPEEDWAY WHAT IS A UMP SPORTSMAN BECAUSE I TOWED MY UMP SPORTSMAN TO SPRINGFIELD TO RUN A UMP SPORTSMAN RACE ON THE MILE TO BE TOLD MY BODY IS TOO WIDE THE BACK HAS TO BE CLOSED IN MY CAR IS CONSIDERED A UMP SPORTSMAN I KNOW BY THE MONEY IT COST ME TO BECOME A MEMBER OF UMP ........... IF YOU GUYS WANT NASCAR SPORTSMEN CARS JUST SAY SO AND THE PEOPLE THAT CAN AFFORD THEM WILL HAVE THEM ...........FURTHER MORE IF YOUR RULES FOR THIS EVENT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO VAGUE I WOULD NOT HAVE WASTED MY F****** TIME DRIVING 2 HOURS TO BE TOLD YOU HAVE TO CHANGE ALL THIS STUFF TO RACE YOUR "UMP SPORTSMAN". YOU JUST COST YOURSELVES A GREAT FAN OF ALL MOTORSPORTS I WILL NEVER SUPPORT YOUR CLASS OF UMP SPORTSMAN CARS EVER AGAIN BECAUSE YOU ALL HAVE AN IDENTITY CRISIS WIT WHAT A "UMP SPORTSMAN IS FROM WHAT ALL OTHERS HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIM EHLERS T27 UMP SPORTSMAN

Trust me I under stand ,we here in central Illinois would love to run all the UMP national events a tri-city or i55 but UMP can't seem to be able to get all tracks on the same set of rules ,you guys don't want to start over to build cars like ours and we don't want to start over either.I was wondering what rules you saw for the mile race the set I saw said no md3 or late model nose and must run a tail,

only thing I saw was the entry form that simply said tire and wheel size and a few other vague rules nothing about the body at all I really believe I could take my car to macon tonight and nothing would be said its just springfield they want cars that look like nascar and I don't have that kind of money so I will not travel like this anymore thanks for understanding

SO I GOT TO THINKING THE OTHER DAY AND THINK I MIGHT HAVE COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH DILLEMA..... WHY NOT HAVE A NATIONALS THAT INCLUDES RULES FOR BOTH CLASSES OF "UMP SPORTSMAN CARS" IN A CENTRAL LOCATION AND HAVE UMP MAKE A DECISION ON A SET OF RULES THAT WORK FOR ALL SPORTMAN CARS

I agree! Bodies donot make sportsmans go any faster so i dont see why they were so stern on the rule. Hope you all can get somethig going because unifying the rules will help that class.

It won't ever happen... The sportsman class as we know it is going to die. My guess is UMP is hoping that it just withers away. Just look at the car counts... even at I55. JMO

The numbers don't lie... 2009- 79 cars for the Sportsman Fall Nationals... 2012-45 cars for the Sportsman Fall Nationals. You have to look at trends for instance in 2010 you had 85 different drivers receive points at I55 in the sportsman class... so far in 2013 you have 46 that is nearly a 46% decrease in 3 years... Keep in mind you had another track running sportsman in 2010, in 2013 I55 is the only game in town. Where have all the cars gone? You have to face reality... The Sportsman cars are never coming back to Highland or Tri-City on a weekly basis and they are on life support at Belle-Clair. Now convince me I'm wrong. Oh yeah by the way the modified driver count has been very consistent over the last 4 years at over 110...

I guarantee if you take your car to Macon tomorrow you will not be allowed to run it. It had nothing to do with it being Springfield or even that they want Nascar bodies. You are only saying that because you know Kenny Wallace, Tony Stewart and Kenny Schrader are involved with the track.

yep more of them every week than ANY other class still
Exactly. Sportsman guys typically dont do much traveling anyway, makes sense considering theyre a lower budget class. Areas with a good crop (likei55) will continue to thrive and ones that don't, won't. Just like any other class. Surprises me to hear people still say that abt the class when u look at the WEEKLY NUMBERS at our biggest local track..and as far as the sportsman national numbers declining you could blame that on the same thing, as competition stiffens and rises (as it does every year) more sportsman guys probably are sensible enough to know their weekly car isn't going to do so good with the more open rules format and don't have a bunch of extra money to hop the car up for basically one night. Jmo from what I've seen while racing the class for the last four years.

To many people running around with there hand to close to there face....Never seen so many blind people ...happy with a slowly shrinking class...happy with what they think is a perfect class even with Extreme posting the past car counts and saying the class is getting smaller, people again were to blind to read his post...I the type of person that changes my oil.filter and plugs when needed and not when I hear the rods starting to rattle..so can some of you sportsman guy's explain...or anyone please explain why you really think the sportsman class is so perfect and doesnt need any changes by ump to get these cars what they deserve....to where a guy cant take his "perfect race car" from track to track and state to state if he wants to travel, race big shows or take it on vacation ?

Sportsman guys are happy for the most part, weekly car counts are highest at i55, even higher than ss and pro 4 most of the time. The crate motor has been made a semi-affordable competetive option. Why ru so hung up on changing the class? And to extreme too. Either one of you race anymore and the guys who do aren't on here crying so whats the deal?

OK THIS IS FOR ALL WHO SAY THAT IM CRYIN ABOUT THIS .... ALL IM SAYIN IS A COMMON SET OF RULES WOULD BRING BACK CAR COUNTS BACK TO ALL SPORTSMAN NATIONALS I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER SPORTSMAN RACERS THAT DO AGREE..... SO ALL IM SAYIN IS TAKE WHAT WE HAVE AND RE GROW A DYING CLASS WITH A COMMON SET OF RULES BY UMP THEMSELVES

All the sportsman guys i talk to say different but I dont go by what they say, The only reason I'm concerned about this class is " If given the right engine package" My brother and I have tossed around the idea of building a new sportsman and have well known Modified driver Pilot it...

Our problem is we dont want to spend 13g for a mullins engine when there is a much cheaper option availible by simply opening up the engines and chokin it with a rochester 2 barrel, used parts are widely availible and doing that stops a lot of tech and reduce's cost of engine's by half I would hope. Plus I have a passion for racing, these cars and dont want to see everyone settle for something that a few say's is ok only to wake up one day and see car count drop to 11 to 15

After looking at I55 rules for sportsman class they are no more than a Street Stock here in IL with a few changes. I see where this is going to be a huge problem for this class to get a set of rules that everyone from Il and the St.louis area cars or anywhere else for that matter for the Sportsman class. Heck the Sportsman class here in il are different at different tracks. Like I said if you guys wanted to have unified rules in this class you are going to go through some very rough growing pains and a lot of bitching and complaining.
