Inside Line Promotions - LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (April 21, 2014) - It will be a relaxing Saturday for Austen Wheatley this weekend.
Wheatley will make his season debut at his home track of Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., which is only a 45-minute drive from his house.
"Just being in my backyard makes it that much better," he said. "You can have a normal routine."
Wheatley, who started the season with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series during its West Coast swing throughout March and early April, was scheduled to compete during the Skagit Speedway season opener last Saturday. However, it rained out as weather continues to hamper the area.
"With all the rain and wetness that they've had I'd imagine it will be really fast and one lane," Wheatley said. "We have the best motor out there. I've just to hit my marks."
The goal for this Saturday is simple.
"I think the expectation is to win it," he said. "I feel very comfortable making laps there. I'd say by far it's one of the most comfortable tracks in the country."
Wheatley led the first 27 laps before finishing third during his season debut at Skagit Speedway last season on a preliminary night of the famed Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup. The following night he drove from 20[sup]th[/sup] to 13[sup]th[/sup] to earn the Hard Charger Award and his best career finish at the Dirt Cup.
