Hi everyone,
GM 2.5L uses a gear set (no chain) for timing. I was using a fiber gear but stripped 4-5 teeth Friday night on the cam gear. Does anyone know where I can purchase a metal cam gear ?
Thanks, Marty Boyer #52 RAMS

1978 PONT.SUNBIRD 151 CU.IN. 2.5L
STEEL GEAR NAPA OR CLOYES PART # 8-2542 --- ALUMINUM GEAR # 8-2522
INSIDE DIAM. 1.282
OUTSIDE DIAM. 6.080

THESE ARE THE SAME ON ALL THE 2.5'S AND THE OLD IRON DUKE'S AND CHEVY II'S

P.S. Even though its a fiber gear I have'nt ever seen much trouble with em
other than lack of oil, you need to check and see if there is an oil nipple usually about 1 o-clock at the cam gear usually when one was stripped it was from no oil
easiest way to check is start it before ya put the cover on and look, if no oil clean it out with a peice of wire and a blow gun till ya get it to flow.... I'm talkin bout just a trickle, just a nuff to keep that fiber gear wet...... and if you are forced ta use the fiber one again soak it in a pan of very hot oil for about an hour..lubes the fiber and makes the gear almost slide onto the cam.......also when pushing the gear on be carefull and dont drive the cam out the back of the motor......

when i ran a chevyII in the midget,i ran an aluminum gear from a 6 cyl. chevy truck 250 c.i. anything from 68-74 will work.hope this helps.

Thanks Guys!

I Got a Cloyes Aluminum gear from Farmington, MO auto parts and they pressed it onto my cam for only $5.00
Thanks Again for the info, Marty Boyer #52 RAMS
