I was wondering if anyone besides myself is going UMP this year, and what people's thoughts are on going UMP.

Hey Ump And Allied Are Both One Hell Of An Association No Matter What Anyone Says............tri-city Yeah ...........but Friday Nights At Belleville Is Where Its At.......................where Will You Be Running And What Number Are You ..................dc:d

im going ump also . i think its about time we bring gust about as many cars and people to the tracks as anyone elses class. this also means we should be leagal anywhere we go + it should be alot fairer playing feild= better racing, and if your ileagle ump can ban you from racing pretty much everywhere.

There are no rules in UMP yet, and doubt there will be ever, so not everyone will be legal everywhere. If ya got a sohc you can run it everywhere pretty much, but dohc is not allowed everywhere.

As for me, I'm not buying a membership till I see if I have any shot at a championship, cost too much for a membership to not get anything from it.

If I am not mistaken, you get a $50,000 insurance policy that goes above what your local track has to offer. Considering all the crashes, roll-overs & other things I have seen happen in the 4cyl/warrior/hornet/pro-4 class, that just may be a real good investment. You will also recieve the UMP news letter & a few other things as well. It is not worth the time & effort if UMP doesn't get any members to run this class, the end result will be everyone will be racing for a track championship that pays nothing to win. Atleast UMP is trying to help the class. Keep in mind guys this is an entry level class, you can't expect to get very much out of it, I think the prestige of being the first ever UMP 4cyl Champion would be worth something, or even finishing in the top 10 or so. Will the UMP 4cyl Champion come from I-55, Mt.Vernon, Highland, Paducah, Clay County Speedway, Fayette County Speedway or will it be from somewhere else? Good Luck guys & gals!

I will also be a part of UMP; if it happens. I haven't heard anyone say anything about already being part of the "UMP 4 cylinder".

I will have to agree with wheelman i think the champ will come from I-55, hopefully one of the Pro-4 Posse;)

UMP Adds Two Entry-Level Divisions To Sanctioning Lineup In 2007
By Kevin Kovac

EVANSVILLE , IN – Nov. 7, 2006 – Two entry-level racing classes will be added to the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) fold in 2007, bringing to seven the number of divisions sanctioned by the DIRT MotorSports-owned organization.

Best known for sanctioning dirt Late Model and open-wheel Modified racing at nearly 100 tracks across the country, UMP is expanding its divisional lineup with economical Factory Stock and Four-Cylinder classes in hopes of providing aspiring drivers another path to begin an advance through the UMP ranks. “This is a way to recognize all the racers who are just starting out and make them part of something,” said UMP director Sam Driggers. “Now when they move up to other classes, they’ll already know what UMP is and what UMP can do for them.”

Both divisions will bring tracks’ existing entry-level classes under the UMP umbrella. The Factory Stock classification includes such divisional names as American Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Novices, while the Four-Cylinder class encompasses divisions such as Mini-Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hornets and Warriors.

The UMP Factory Stocks and Four-Cylinders will follow all local track rules with one exception: cars in both divisions must run street tires only.

Both classes will have UMP National points races in 2007. Twenty races will be used to determine the National point standings, meaning drivers will have an opportunity to begin replacing their worst finishes after reaching that mark.

UMP has established a $2,650 points fund for the National points battles, with $500 earmarked for the first-ever UMP national champion in each class. The top 20 drivers in the National standings will receive points-fund cash at the annual UMP Awards Banquet.

“We’re starting with a National points fund for the two divisions,” said Driggers. “If the drivers in the divisions get involved with UMP, we will add more points money in the years to come.”

Drivers must be UMP members to be eligible to share in the Factory Stock and Four-Cylinder points funds. A membership will cost $75 per driver with UMP insurance included.

Upon joining UMP, members will receive the organization’s regular newsletter as well as a membership kit that includes a membership card, decals and other items.

In 2006 UMP sanctioned five divisions – dirt Late Models, open-wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Modifieds and Street Stocks – and 87 racetracks. The organization will distribute over a half-million dollars in points fund cash during its annual awards banquet on Jan. 20 at the Springfield ( Ill. ) Hilton.

The 2007 technical rules for all UMP divisions except the Late Models have been released. Competitors can obtain a copy of the rules by visiting the UMP website at www.umpracing.com and printing them; calling the UMP office at 812-426-1200; or contacting their local UMP tracks. Sets of rules will also be available from UMP officials at selected off-season trade shows.

The UMP Late Model division’s 2007 rules are currently being completed and are expected to be released shortly.

The pure stock class will be a new division for UMP in 2007. The only rule UMP will have for pure stocks is that they have to run on a street tire. Everything else will be track rules. If the drivers want to be eligible for the point funds for this class he/she will have to be a member of UMP. There will be 2 membership prices for this class, $50.00 per driver with no insurance or $75 per driver with the UMP insurance.
The first year we will pay a state point fund, which will be listed below. If the drivers in the pure stock class get involved we will add more point money in the years to come. When you become a member you will be eligible for the point fund. You will also receive a newsletter as well as a membership kit with your membership card, decals and other items. When you start your racing career it is very important that you get your name out in the racing community, what better way than with the UMP newsletter. This letter is sent out to thousands of people and seen by many more on our website. It would be great to have you as the first UMP Pure Stock state champion of 2007.

v All cars that do not make the feature will be awarded 10 points

v If any race pays the drivers the same amount as a regular feature or more it will be counted as a feature, and will receive feature points.

v Bonus points will be 1 point for every car over 20. The most bonus points a driver can get for a feature will be 20 bonus points.

v The amount of races each class will count before we start replacing races will be as follows:
*Late Models 50 races
*Modifieds 35 races
*Sportsman, Limited Modifieds, and Street Stocks 25 races
*Pure Stock and 4 Cylinders 20 races

v When you start replacing races you will replace your worst feature finish first. The only time you will not use a worse finish is if it will cause you to lose points. We will then go to your next worse finish or until we find one that you can use. This could vary because of car counts. If you can not replace a race your points will not change.

v You will never lose points. You will stay the same or advance in points.

v Points for all classes will start on Friday March 30th 2007 and will end on Sunday September 30th 2007.

v In case of any ties for positions, we will add the two positions together and split the total between the two drivers.[/FONT]
