BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (Aug. 6, 2005) On a night to where the fastest run of the event ended in a spectacular barrell-roll accident it ended when Mother Nature sent in the fog!
Forty-three-year-old John Moreland of Liberty, Mo. was uninjured after his rail dragster barrell-rolled several times in the shutdown area following a run of over 101 mph over the 300-foot sand track. The car was trashed, but Moreland was able to unstrap himself from the twisted metal to walk away.
As for Mother Nature, she decided at 12:30 a.m. that enough was enough and brought in a heavy dosage of fog to cover the track. The fog made it impossible for the track's electronic scoring system to work properly so the rest of the night had to be scrapped.
Here are the results from Saturday night.
In Junior ATV, Whitney Dee of Leadwood was the top eliminator and first place winner while Garth Farris of Potosi captured second place.
In ATV-1, Cassie Patterson of Leadwood was the first place and top eliminator winner with Allie Glatczak of Potosi taking second place.
In Vehicle ET, Rob Tourville of St. Ann was the first place winner while Gladys Edwards of Bonne Terre captured second place and won the top eliminator race.
In Stock Buggy, Jeremy Sutton of Park Hills was the top eliminator and first place winner while Vernon Henson Sr. of Valle Mines captured second place.
The following races were affected by the fog, so there were no top eliminator races.
In Open 4x4, Daniel Wies of Wentzville continued his undefeated streak at BRSD by winning first place while his father, Terry Wies of Wentzville, captured second.
In Super Pro ATV, Justin Garnett was the first place winner while Jason Waller of Bonne Terre took home second place.
In Pro ATV, Josh Hayes of Pilot Knob was the first place winner with Kevin Betzer Jr. taking second place.
In Competition Eliminator, William Sutton of Des Arc won first place with Carla Glatczak of Potosi taking second.
Racing action at BRSD will continue this Saturday night. Gates open at 3 p.m. with time trials at 4, registration ends at 6 and racing at 7. For more information go to: www.bigriversanddrags.com

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear John is ok. But I still hate to hear that his car was wrecked. So much time, money and effort go into these vehicles its always a hard thing to deal with. Its a part of racing we all except, but its also the part of racing we hope we never have to deal with. Glad your ok John and I hope you can get things put back together ok.

Bryan yes it was a shame, but John had a very very good attitude about it, i think we will see him back , i would imagine it would be next year but his exact words at the drivers meeting was ill be back with a brand new frame i want that track record, i might not get it but im going to try.

Ahhh, he wants the gold crown ehhh lol. Well, what was his best time? All I have seen was the 101 top speed. I finished my truck today, so I should be there Saturday. I was very very dissapointed with the stall I put in it. It acts just like a stock convertor. I wrote them a letter, we'll see if they reply and make any effort to correct it. I think maybe someone forgot to trim the fins in this one lol. I still dont have my hood though. Truth is, I want everyone to see my brandy new K&N air filter lol. Oh well, a season of racing is bound to leave a few dings in a race car/truck. Cya all later!

I dont think they gave his time he made only one pass b,c it was in practice when he rolled it, i would guess his time was right around 3.0 so hes got a way to go, blown income was also there but was having transmission trouble and never made a pass, they might be there this weekend,, well if your coming back this weekend its time to start talking up the jeff and christi grudge match haha.
