$3000 on the line Saturday Night

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – July 30, 2014 - It has been parity to say the least during the sprint car portion of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Hutchinson Grand Nationals presented by Mel Hambelton Ford at the Kansas State Fairground s in Hutchinson, Kansas to say the least. This Friday and Saturday will see the drivers of the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products sprint car division compete to have their names etched into the history books of this famed event, they will also look to take home $3000 on championship Saturday night.
If that isn’t enough, two drivers who currently have the shot at the 2014 series championship, will continue their point battle.
Eleven different drivers have reached victory lane the past eleven Hutch Nationals in the 360-ci sprint car division with only Nebraska car owner Gary Swenson claiming a repeat championship. Gary achieved this feat with Jeremy Campbell (2012) and Jordan Boston (2011).
Jack Dover of Springfield, Nebraska is the defending Nationals champion and will be back with his Ford power plant to defend his championship.
Other drivers who have won the past eleven years include; Danny Jennings (2010), Garry Lee Maier (2009), Mike Chadd (2008), Jon Freeman (2007), J.D. Johnson (2006), Derek Drown (2005), Steve King (2004) and C.J. Johnson (2003).
Both C.J. Johnson and Maier are tied with three 360-ci sprint car Hutchinson Grand Nationals championships a piece.
It is virtually a two man contest for the 2014 NCRA sprint car championship between C.J. Johnson and Campbell as Johnson has a slim ten point lead in his quest to claim his third championship in a row and fourth overall. To add even more intrigue for this weekend Campbell, who suffered a blown motor last weekend in weekly racing action, has scrambled this week to find a motor. At last check one has been obtained and the Campbell team is feverously scrambling to get the familiar #10c ready for this weekend.
Dover has picked up the most victories thus far this season (3) while Aaron Reutzel, Johnson, Danny Wood, Jeff Stasa and Kevin Swindell claim one victory a piece.
After this weekend four events remain scheduled for the 25[sup]th[/sup] anniversary season for the tour and the new two-night format could once again shake things up in the point battle.
The format for the NCRA sprint car division this weekend is as follows:
Friday night – Every car will draw for heat race with the top fifteen in passing points going to the night’s “A” feature. The top six finishers will be locked in heads up for the championship feature on Saturday night.
Saturday night – Cars that finished 7-15 in Friday night’s feature will be lined up for the front spots of two (2) dashes (7[sup]th[/sup] on pole of first dash, 8[sup]th[/sup] on pole of second dash, 9[sup]th[/sup] on outside of first dash, tenth on outside of second dash, etc.) with the remainder six (6) spots in each dash will be filled by the cars finishing 16[sup]th[/sup] and below in passing points from Friday night to make the fifteen car dashes. The top six from each dash will go to the Championship feature.
Cars that finish seventh through fifteenth will fill the top spots of two (2) last chance races. The remainder of the cars from passing points will be added to the back of the field. The top three from each race will advance and round out the 24 car championship field on Saturday night.
With this new format, each car entered on Friday will have three chances to get into the Championship “A” feature on Saturday night. If you choose to come Saturday only you will have only one (1) chance to make the “A” feature and the best starting spot would be nineteenth. Also, each car transferring from all dashes and last chance races will pay money, no transfer – no money.
If any sprint car driver can win Friday night’s dash as well as Saturday night’s championship feature, that driver could take home $4000 for his weekend’s efforts. Any modified driver winning Friday night’s dash and Saturday night’s championship feature would take home $3000 for their weekend sweep.
At the conclusion of Friday night’s events atop the famed half mile oval, the band “Linnaberry Wine” will be performing.
Championship Saturday night will see over 100 bicycles given away to ages ten and under so there will be something for not only racers but fans as well as anticipation mounts for the 28[sup]th[/sup] annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals.
Gates both nights will open at 5:00 PM with racing slated for a 7:00 PM start time both nights.
