Phenix City, Alabama (10/17/12) - William Thomas only led one lap in the $5,000-to-win, Crate Late Model portion of the 34th Annual Alabama State Championships at East Alabama Motor Speedway on Sunday evening, but it was the most important one as he grabbed the lead and the win in the final corner of the event.

It was a busy weekend for the team as they took part in several events over the course of two days. On Saturday evening they traveled to Green Valley Speedway (Glencoe, Alabama) for a $3,500-to-win, unsanctioned Super Late Model event at the 3/8 mile oval. With nineteen Super Late Models entered William's weekend would come to an abrupt early end. After qualifying fourth fastest on his first lap of qualifying the rear-end went out on the second lap when the bird cage locked up. As a result the team scratched from the balance of the event and headed home for repairs.

On Sunday afternoon the finales for the 34th Annual Alabama State Championships, which were delayed by Mother Nature two weeks prior, were held at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama). In the Crate Late Model feature William started eighth on the grid for the $5,000-to-win event and worked his way through the field to the fourth position in the early stages of the event. He would ride in the fourth position for several laps before mounting a late-race charge to the front that culminated with him making the pass for the win exiting turn four on the white flag lap! The victory was his eighth of the 2012 campaign.
The $5,000-to-win, Sportsman division found him starting eighteenth on the grid in the caution-filled event. Despite green flag runs of only two or three laps at a time Thomas advanced fourteen spots on his way to a fourth place finish.

He closed out his outing in the Super Late Model division with a $7,000-to-win finale. After making temporary repairs to the damage from the night prior at Green Valley Speedway, Thomas started eighteenth on the grid and retired on lap 12 to a twenty-fourth place finish.
