Defending track Champion Henry Hanger had not been out of the Top 5 all season but prior to Saturday night the Winchester speedster had yet to visit the J7J trenching victory lane. Hanger rectified that problem on Saturday night by holding off the advances of Steve Vann, who made a valiant effort and was rewarded with his best finish ever at Winchester, a very close runner-up finish. Landon Arnold prevailed in a terrific four car battle for third through sixth as Colt Russell and Marty May had fine runs to edge sixth place Tony Mooney for their Top 5 finish.

The headache and/or bad luck award for the night had to go to Kelly Walker(#25). A spectacular 16.30 lap superseded the track record held by former Super Stock and Open Wheel Champion David Jackson's 16.31 mark. Unfortunately Walker experienced mechanical maladies and was scratched not able to start the main event. Mark Haddon ran a close second to walker in the headache department as the Winchester hot shoe was involved in a lap two incident that sent Mark over the turn one berm and rendered him momentarily unconscious. Mark was OK but through for the evening.

In the two barrel Late Model main it was a real struggle with David Seibers shadowing Jeff Tate for the entire 20 laps before finally settling for second spot while Tate became the fourth different 2-BBL LM feature winner in four events. McMinnville’s Larry DeLong gave it the old college try but could only muster a very strong third place run ahead of neighbor Terry Fowler and Shane Echols.

Seibers and Tate were the heat race victors.

Every week the Outlaw Pony feature is a hotly contested event and this week’s race continued that tradition with Brad Sain all over defending champion Tony Patterson but alas would trail the two time champion across the finish line with Mike Brashears in third. Steve Gannon drove his Ford Ranger 4-cylinder to fourth spot with Ricky Brown in fifth. Patterson made it a clean sweep by also winning his heat race.

Heat winner’s Ricky Riddle and Bobby Bradford had a major battle for some eight laps before Bradford broke. With Bradford out Riddle may have assumed the heat was off but a great run by Jonathan Sells saw Sells push the two time winner the final laps before finally settling for a place finish while Johnny Payne’s show run was his best finish of 2004. Brian Hudson and Marty Anderson were fourth and fifth.
