If anyone has been consistently faster than Shelbyville’s Larry Landers at Winchester Speedway this season their name currently escapes this writer. On the other hand, few have had as many problems getting to the checkered flag than the affable Landers. From, lapped traffic, on track incidents to mechanical problems a myriad of various problems always seem to intervene and thwart Larry’s effort to nab the trophy, money and glory.

All that changed Saturday night as Landers wrestled the lead from pole sitter Byron Michael on lap one and never looked back. Though Larry was pushed early by Michael and had to withstand a hard charging Daniel Miller in the closing laps the prestigious Kennith Wessner Ford-Mercury "Big 10 Cup" victory would go to Larry Landers.

Larry became the eighth different Big 10 feature winner in nine events. Only Jerry Owens has won twice.

A late race incident between Byron Michael and Daniel Miller, in a borrowed racer, sent Byron to the infield and finally to the pits. Michael would return to salvage some points but settled for a disappointing twelfth place finish. CO-point’s leader David Jackson had another excellent run to garner third place and the sole possession of the points lead with one final race remaining in the 2005 Big 10 series. 2003 Big 10 champion Jerry Owens struggled uncharacteristically to an eighth place finish and fell behind Jackson by five points in his quest for another Championship.

Regular season point’s leader David Brannon kept his hopes alive by capturing the fourth spot ahead of defending track champion Randy Gifford.

Jerry Ashley continues to have good showings with a very close sixth place run while Brandon King came from the rear to capture a seventh place finish after an early flat tire dashed the chargers shot at a win.

Shannon Davis had to follow defending champion Henry Hanger in the eight lap heat race and through the early part of the main event but Davis finally slipped by Hanger and then held him at bay to capture his eighth feature win of the season in the Open Wheel division. Hanger’s second place finish kept him in the point’s lead while 2003 Open Wheel champion David Jackson was third ahead of Alan Holmes who came from the rear to nab fourth spot in front of Steve Vann. Matt Jackson also won his heat race.

Scott Cornelius set quick time then picked up his third win of the year. The win was not easy as Scott was pushed to the checkered flag by a teenager? You betcha, young Matt O’dneal almost pulled off the upset. In fact Matt actually got by Cornelius on the outside and crossed the starting line ahead of Cornelius on lap eight but a caution flag reverted the field back to lap seven and Cornelius was the leader on lap seven. Mark Hadden was third with Bruce Williams and three time winner Rick Currin finishing close in third through fifth.

A race long battle between Chad Williams and Terry Fowler ended with Williams taking sixth spot ahead of the 2-BBL points runner-up, Fowler. Cornelius set quick time with a 16.30 lap.
