NOTABLE

With a two week break in the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series schedule, several of the “Dirty Dozen” racers and teams did venture out over the past two weekends doing very, very well. While some decided to not race.

Billy Moyer, driver of the No. 21 J&J Steel/One Hour Cooling C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Having the most success, monetarily, was current World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series championship points leader Billy Moyer. The Batesville,AR driver headed for the Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus,MS April 16th and 17th for the $10,000 to win “2nd Annual Governors Cup”. Powering in to the lead on lap 9 of the 60-lapper, “Mr. Smooth” never looked back taking the win by half a track. Moyer then battled with the Stacker 2® MARS (Mid-America Racing Series) sanctioning organization, a property of DIRT MotorSports, at his home town track Batesville Speedway Friday, April 22nd garnering a sixth place finish.

Shane Clanton, driver of the No. 25 SAE Parts/RSDEnterprises,Inc. Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Fellow “Dirty Dozen” member Shane Clanton of Locust Grove,GA drove to a second place finish behind Moyer at Magnolia (MS) Speedway April 17th. Clanton also set quick time during time trials and joined Moyer as a heat race winner. Clanton then headed for Murphy (NC) Speedway April 22rd only to be rained out and then headed for Talladega (LA) Short Track April 23rd where he scored the victory.

Clint Smith, driver of the No. 44 JP Drilling/Oval Craft GRT Race Cars/Racetek Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Also, scoring a top five finish at Magnolia Motor Speedway April 17th was Clint Smith of Senoia,GA. “Cat Daddy”, who copped his first career World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series victory April 9th at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda,VA, nailed down the fifth spot . Smith took this past week-end off in preperation for the this weekends World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series events.

Rick Eckert, driver of the No. 24 Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Ford Taurus

“Dirty Dozen” member Rick Eckert of York,PA found victory circle during the weekend of 4/15 – 4/17. Eckert reached victory lane in two of three events pocketing a $3,000 to win event at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown,MD April 15th and a $5,000 to win event April 17th at Challenger Raceway near Indiana,PA after starting 21st . Eckert also scored a fourth place finish at Winchester Speedway in Winchester,VA April 16th. “Scrub” was scheduled to compete this past week-end at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek,MD and at “The Rock”/Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland,MD. The decision was made not to race Friday at Potomac while rain wiped out the show at “The Rock” on Saturday.

Dale McDowell, driver of the No. 17M Larry Shaw Race Cars/J&J Steel/New Vision Graphics Rocket Chassis/RaceTek Racing Engines Pontiac Grand Prix

McDowell of Chickamauga.GA notched a single win 4/16 in what was basically a test-n-tune session. McDowell went to the $3,000 to win event April 16th at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth,GA to sort out mechanical problems that dogged the team after the April 8th & 9th World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series events. “Mac Daddy” then headed for Batesville (AR) Speedway Friday, April 22nd and I-30 (AR) Speedway Saturday, April 23rd notching at 12th place finish and 7th place finish respectively in the Stacker 2® MARS sanctioned events.

Dan Schlieper, driver of the Miller Bros. Coal Co./Hawkeye Trucking No. 9 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Schlieper from Sullivan,WI raced to a 5th place finish at Farley Speedway in Farley,IA April 15th. “The Wisconsin Wildman” then headed for Freeport Raceway in Freeport,IL April 16th where he garnered a 6th place finish. Schlieper opted not to race this past weekend.

Steve Francis, driver of the No. 15 MOPAR Performance Parts/Valvoline Rocket Chassis/Gary Stanton Racing Engines Dodge Intrepid R/T

Francisof Ashland,KY joined Schlieper at Freeport (IL) Raceway piloting the Larry Moring owned No. 15 Moring Disposal/Freeport Recycling Rocket Chassis/Gary Stanton Racing Engines Dodge Intrepid R/T to a 4th place finish. “The Kentucky Colonel” chose not to race this past weekend.

Darrell Lanigan, driver of the No. 29 Gotta Race/Afco Racing Products Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Ford Taurus

Lanigan of Union,KY opted to take part at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown,IN April 17th where he suffered mechanical woes finishing 24th. Lanigan and crew took this past weekend off.

Tim McCreadie, driver of the No. 39 Sweetners Plus/A & C Speedworld,Inc. Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

For McCreadie, his racing was back to his roots. The 2004 World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series “Rookie of the Year” from Watertown,NY jumped back behind the wheel of a Big Block Modified. “T-Mac” scored a third place finish at Fulton Speedway in Fulton,NY April 16th followed by runner-up finish April 17th at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport,NY. Plans for a triple-header of racing the Modified this past weekend fell by the wayside when rain and snow at Brewerton Speedway, Canandaigua Speedway and Cayuga County Fair Speedway canceled the New York race tracks events.

Josh Richards, driver of the No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/A-C-E Metal Works Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Richards, the current World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series “Rookie of the Year” point leader, had a very good weekend April 15th – 17th with a pair of firsts. The firsts may have not been on the score sheets for the 17 year-old Shinnston,WV resident but they were big firsts in his young career. “Kid Rocket” jumped behind the wheel of an asphalt Late Model April 15th placing second at Motordrome Speedway in Smithton,PA. Richards then headed for the world renowned Eldora Speedway in Rossburg,OH April 16th nailing a fourth place finish in his very first attempt on the high-banks. Plans for a return to the asphalt at Motordrome Speedway this past Friday, April 22nd and to “The Rock”/Allegany County (MD) Speedway were nixed by inclement weather.

Scott Bloomquist, driver of the No. 0 Miller Bros. Coal Co./Hawkeye Trucking Bloomquist Chassis/Custom Race Engines Ford Mustang

The defending World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series champion also decided to not race over the two week break in the schedule. The Mooresburg,TN driver said, “We’ve got equipment to get ready.”

Chub Frank, driver of the No. 1* Lester Buildings/All Star Performance/Corry Rubber Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

“Chubzilla”, as he’s known to his legions of fans, took advantage of the two week break in the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series schedule by staying at home. “Actually its kinda nice having the break. As much equipment as we tore up the last races we needed the break to get stuff fixed.”

John Blankenship, driver of the No. 23 Busch Beer/Walker CAT Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Ford Taurus

Like Bloomquist and Frank, Blankenship took advantage of the “vacation” doing exactly that. Said crew chief David Wade of the Williamson,WV driver, “We’re here working at the shop getting equipment fixed and ready. He’s enjoying some vaction time and getting some R-n-R.”
