QUOTABLE

Billy Moyer, driver of the No. 21 J&J Steel/Banner Valley Trucking/McCarthy’s One Hour Cooling and Heating C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On his race at Butler Battlegrounds: “Well, we did what we could do. I mean, its hard to do anything when you can’t race. The track really got one groove and you just can’t race like that. I guess we’ll take it and move on.”

On the upcoming event at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I really don’t know much about the place. It’ll be the first time we’ve been there just like tonight (Saturday).”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “That’s a real good place to race. The track is always racy and two or three grooves. We just about won that one last year but Dale got us in the traffic. I like racing there. It’s fun. That’s all we ask for. Give us a track we can race on.”

Clint Smith, driver of the No. 44 JP Drilling/CSR Aluminum/Turkey Creek Snacks GRT Race Cars/Racetek Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On his win at Butler Battlegrounds: “It feels real good to get another one. Winning the dash really helped out cause it was gonna be tough to pass. It got one groove and everybody was running pretty much the same speed. Even the lapped cars. I wish there would’ve been a few more cautions. Man, that was tough getting through the traffic and then having Darren right there at the end.”

On Fridays event at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “Don’t know a thing about the place. I’m looking forward to it. Seems like we do pretty good at places we’ve never been before.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “That’s a racy joint. I like the place. The do a great job up there with that track and work it throughout the program to keep the surface good.”

Rick Eckert, driver of the No. 24 Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Ford Taurus

On his third place finish at Butler Battlegrounds: “We just tried to hang on. Clint definitely had the best car tonight. When Darren blew by me I just thought, ‘I wonder how bad I’m holding up the train’.

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I’ve never been to the place but I’ve heard a lot about it. It sounds like it’s a fast place.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “That’s a fun place to race. It’s kinda small but you can race on it fine. The Helfrich family does a great job with the place. I’m looking forward to going back.”

Darrell Lanigan, driver of the No. 29 Gotta Race/Bert Transmission Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Ford Taurus
On his race at Butler Battlegrounds: “It wasn’t a good night. I’m not happy”.

Tim McCreadie, driver of the No. 39 Sweetners Plus/A & C Speedworld,Inc. Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On racing at Butler Battlegrounds: “It was all right. I mean, yeah, it was hard to pass and all that. I know some of the guys are pretty upset about that. But, we’ve all been there and done that before. We got a top 5 and for once we had no problems. No accidents or spins, no mechanical problems and the driver didn’t do anything stupid.”

On Fridays race at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I’m looking forward to it. I’ve heard its bad fast. That will be kinda neat to race on a tri-oval.”

On Saturdays race Tri-State Speedway: “That was fun down there last year. We maybe didn’t do real well but we learned a lot. It’s a beautifully prepared race track and they keep at it during the show. That’s neat.”

Chub Frank, driver of the No. 1* Lester Buildings/All Star Performance/Corry Rubber Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On racing at Butler Battlegrounds: “Well, it was kinda tough to really race on. It got one-groove and you can’t race when its like that. We got a top 10 (6th) so we’ll take that and move on to the next one.”

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I’m the only one of the ‘Dirty Dozen” who has been there before. That place is wicked fast! It’s just so fast. I’m just trying to remember if it’s got five or six corners!”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “That’s a good place to race at. The surface is always good. That means you can race on it. That’s all we want. A surface we can race on.”

Josh Richards, “Rookie of the Year” driver of the No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/A-C-E Metal Works Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On his race at Butler Battlegrounds: “We won our heat and finished third in the dash. The car felt really good. We finished fifth so I’ve got to be happy with that.”

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I’ve been there before and it is a real fast place. It’s kinda different being a tri-oval but it really puts out the speed.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “I like racing there. It’s usually two or three grooves where you can race. It’s just a cool place to race at.”

Scott Bloomquist, driver of the No. 0 Miller Bros. Coal Co./Hawkeye Trucking Bloomquist Chassis/Custom Race Engines Ford Mustang

On racing at Butler Battlegrounds: “I’m really, really disappointed. You know, it’s not good for the series or the fans to have to race on a bad surface. We’re here to put on a show for the fans and you just can’t do it when you have a one-groove track. I tried stepping to the outside and pass Steve that one time and I lost a spot. I’m just really, really disappointed of how things turned out.”

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I’ve heard a lot about the place. It’ll be different racing at a tri-oval.”

On Saturdays race at Tr-State Speedway: “Tommy (owner/promoter Tom Helfrich) and his family do a fantastic job with that place. That is a track where you can race. There’s multiple grooves and we can entertain the fans. That’s what it’s all about.”

Dale McDowell, driver of the No. 17M Larry Shaw Race Cars/J&J Steel/New Vision Graphics Rocket Chassis/RaceTek Racing Engines Pontiac Grand Prix
On racing at Butler Battlegrounds: “We started off good setting quick time but then again we went out first. I just messed up in the heat race and didn’t get a good start. That let Timmy (McCreadie) beat me into turn one and essentially that was it. It was all about starting position. Taking nothing away from Clint. He drove a great race and had the best car. But, it’s a shame the track conditions turned out the way they did.”

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “I’ve been hearing a lot about the place. How it’s a tri-oval and super fast. It ought to be a real challenge. I’m looking forward to heading up there.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “Obviously since we won there last year I love the place! But, it is a great place to race at. We had a lot of fun up there last year and hopefully will be able to repeat. I know it’ll be tough.”

Steve Francis, driver of the No. 15 MOPAR Performance Parts/Valvoline Rocket Chassis/Gary Stanton Racing Engines Dodge Intrepid R/T
On his race at Butler Battlegrounds: “It wasn’t any fun. It’s just too bad the track went away like it did. There really wasn’t much you could do but ride around and hope someone made a major mistake or dropped out.”

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “It’s about 2½ hours from the house but I’ve never been there. It’ll be nice racing close to home. That place is fast. Real fast.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “I like racing there. It’s a race track you can race on from top to bottom. Helfrich’s do a great job there. I’m looking forward to it.”

Dan Schlieper, driver of the Miller Bros. Coal Co./Hawkeye Trucking No. 9 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On racing at Butler Battlegrounds: “I’m really frustrated with the way things went. You just couldn’t do anything out there. If you stepped out of line it was all over. All you could do was just sit and wait. That’s no fun.”

On Fridays race at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “All I know is that is the place that has the Harley race (winner receives a Harley-Davidson motorcycle). And, Jackie Boggs is tough there. I’ve heard it’s really fast.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “That’s a great place to race. It’s kinda small which some of the guys don’t like but you got to have the little tracks and the bigger tracks. I like the place. It’s real racy and has multiple grooves.”

John Blankenship, driver of the No. 23 Busch Beer/Walker CAT Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Ford Taurus

On missing the feature event at Butler Battlegrounds where he was to have started 15th: “We had fuel delivery problems. We tried firing the car before the main and it wouldn’t start. It wasn’t getting fuel. So, we changed the fuel pump thinking that was it and it wasn’t. By that time the eight minute warning (call to the line) was just about up. There wasn’t much we could do but miss the race and try and find out what the problem was. Turned out the fuel pick-up in the fuel cell was bad. I don’t know when we’re gonna shake this gorilla off our back. Maybe I need to put a whole bunch of bananas in the rig.”

On racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex: “All I know is what the other guys have been saying. It’s a tri-oval that is bad fast. Hopefully we’ll learn some more about the place this week.”

On racing at Tri-State Speedway: “I didn’t do real well there last year. We didn’t make the show. But, I still rank it among my top 10 tracks. It’s a neat place to race at and is always racy.”

Shane Clanton, driver of the No. 25 SAE Parts/RSDEnterprises,Inc. Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On how his recovery from shoulder surgery May 9th is progressing: “We’re feeling pretty good. I won’t be able to race again this weekend. I can’t until I get the doctors release and I don’t see him again until May 24th. I hate I can’t race again this week but if I did and tore it up it could be a 3 to 6 month recovery.”
