QUOTABLE
Dale McDowell, driver of the No. 17M Larry Shaw Race Cars/New Vision Graphics Rocket Chassis/RaceTek Racing Engines Pontiac Grand Prix
On his troubles during the 2005 February opening events at Volusia Speedway Park: “The first night at Volusia the car just wouldn’t work. We threw everything at it we could think of but we couldn’t figure it out. We brought out the second car for the final night at Volusia and it was better, much better until we crashed. But, we’ve figured out what was wrong and we’re ready to go.”

On if he was worried about being behind the eight-ball in the points championship: “No, not really. There is a long way to go yet with the World Of Outlaws season so I’m not worried. Everybody has bad days at the race track and we had ours right off the bat. Hopefully, those days are behind us. The points will work themselves out.”

On racing at “The Rock”/Allegany County Speedway: “That is one big racetrack that we’ve enjoyed racing at in years past. I’ve never raced up there this early in the season so I imagine it’s gonna’ be fast. I’ve always enjoyed my time up there and it should be a great show for the fans. We’re looking forward to it.”

On racing at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway: “I’ve never been there so I don’t know too much about it. I’ve heard good things about the facility and am anxious to see the place. That’s a great area for us to be racing in. I’m looking forward to meeting the fans. Virginia has a some great race fans.”

On if he has picked any other drivers brains about V.M.S.: “I’ve talked to a few guy’s but not really picked their brains about it. Anytime you see a track for the first time you want to know a little about it before you get there. But, for some crazy reason we’ve always done pretty well at tracks we see for the very first time. Maybe you out think yourself too much with the car when you know a track.”

Steve Francis, driver of the No. 15 MOPAR Performance Parts/Valvoline Rocket Chassis/Gary Stanton Racing Engines Dodge Intrepid R/T

On his struggles during the 2005 February opening events at Volusia Speedway Park: “We were good in Florida except for the two World Of Outlaws races. It’s two races out of the year. Last year we started out strong and then came up short at the end. But, at this point in my season this has been the best year in my career by far. But, then again it hasn’t been that good because we were running in the top five the second WoO race and broke a pinion shaft in the rear-end and then the first night we broke an A-frame. They were bad situations but that’s just part of racing.”

On racing at “The Rock”/Allegany County Speedway and Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway: “I’ve never actually been to Saluda but I’ve been to Cumberland four or five times and won a race there. I really like the place. I seem to like the bigger, faster tracks anyway. I’m looking forward to going back there.”

On whether he has consulted with other drivers about Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway: “No, not really. We’ve just been so busy building our new race shop, not that we’re putting the racing on the backburner, but with Hoosier coming out with the new tires I really don’t think what guy’s learned there in the past will mean that much. You know, the new tires are going to make the cars react differently and I heard they changed the race track a little near the end of last season too. I have talked with Rick Eckert a little bit, he’s won there before, but with all the changes that we will see I don’t think it will be that big of a deal.”

On if he is concerned with points this early in the season: “You know I lost the championship last year by 13 points so every point counts. Right now we just go and out race. When you get down towards the end of the season and if your in the hunt you do watch the points. If you know you have a top five car that you may be able to win with but also know that if you make a mistake you might end up tenth or worse, your going to race conservatively. Right now with where we’re at in points I can gamble a little bit.”

On his thoughts on how teams will have to work to adapt to the new Hoosier Tires: “I think all of us are going to go through a little learning curve with these new tires but I don’t think it will be daylight and dark, but it’s going to be a little different for all of us.”

John Blankenship, driver of the No. 23 Busch Beer/Walker CAT Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Ford Taurus
On what his goals are for 2005 as member of the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series “Dirty Dozen”: “HA! Stay a member of the ‘Dirty Dozen’. It’s really pretty simple. That is our main goal. And, another goal is to be competitive on my own without Scott’s help. We’ll just see what we can do.”

On what one thing he learned most traveling with the Series in 2004: “That it takes a lot of time and work. And, a lot of traveling.”

On what one thing he learned from his racing mentor, 2004 World Of Outlaws Champion Scott Bloomquist: “I don’t know. I learned so much that just to pick out one thing is really hard. I learned a lot last year. But, I think I everything I learned last year will really help me a lot.”

On what he thinks about racing at “The Rock”/Allegany County Speedway and Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway: “I’ve never been to either one so it will be all new to me. I’ve talked to a few people and picked up a few pointers but I’ll be tryng a different car than what we have been driving so I don’t know if those pointers will help or not. It will be interesting both ways to me to see if the pointers do work.”

Chub Frank, driver of the No. 1* Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber Rocket Chassis/Draime Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On racing at “The Rock”/Allegany County Speedway and Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway: “Those tracks, we have run good at both them. Actually the next four races, we go to Lernerville and Hagerstown after that, so all four of them I’m looking forward to. They’re also close to home. We’ve got some time on three of them. Virginia Motor Speedway, we’ve only raced at once but it was a win. So that’s a good thing.”

On his teams preparations for the 2005 World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series season: “The cars are about done, we’re waiting on a motor and once we get this stuff done I’m hoping to be all ready by the 8th and hit it heavy. I just want to get the garage done and we’re almost there. Between the garage and hauler we know once we start racing it will be hammer down which we are looking forward to.”

Dan Schlieper, driver of the No. S9 Miller Bros. Coal/Hawkeye Trucking C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo

On how grabbing an early season win has turned things around: “It feels good to get back into victory lane, that is for sure. We struggled a little bit early on this year, but I think things are starting to turn around for us.”

Rick Jones, Promoter/President of “The Rock”/Allegany County Speedway
On how bringing the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series to“The Rock” and it’s sister track, Potomac (MD) Speedway: “We are trying to bring both race tracks up to what I guess you would call a new standard of entertainment. I think that bringing in the World Of Outlaws will bring people who may have never been to our tracks to us. They see a show like the World Of Outlaws then what we’re hoping is that they’ll come back to our weekly shows. I think that having the World Of Outlaws at ‘The Rock’ and at Potomac will be the best show in the world.”

Clarke Sawyer, General Manager of Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway
On the inaugural appearance of the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series to V.M.S.: “This is a great opportunity for our fans to see some of the best dirt Late Model drivers in the business going at it door to door for the big money. It is also a great opportunity for our Speedway to get some national exposure with the Speed Channel cameras on hand to film all the action. This is going to be an awesome deal for the track, having the likes og Bloomquist, Eckert, Frank and Francis along with the rest of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ racing against some of the regions local talent the likes of Jeremy Miller, Booper Bare, Chuck Finch and Louie Littlepage. It only adds up to being a barn burner for our fans.”
