SAN FELIPE PUEBLO, NM (October 29) – Steve Kinser and Daryn Pittman can hardly wait for the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series to return to Hollywood Hills Speedway, but for completely different reasons.
Kinser swept the double-feature event when sprint car racing’s premier series christened the semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval in March, while Pittman suffered a back injury while crashing at the new facility.
"Everything went well all day long," Kinser said after the series ran two programs March 10th. "Everything’s been going well all year for us. I just want to thank my crew and everyone involved with this team who make it all possible. We’re looking forward to coming back here. They have a great facility here and it will do nothing but get better."
Kinser would like to clinch his 17th championship when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series returns to Hollywood Hills Saturday and Sunday. He has won 18 "A" Features and leads the driver standings by 292 points over Danny Lasoski. "The King of the Outlaws" has driven his #11 Quaker State Maxim into the top 10 57 times in 65 main events, including 44 in the top five.
All Kinser has to do is score 97 points in the final four racing programs to claim the championship.
Pittman wants to tame the track that caused him to miss nine races in March and April. The 2001 World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion is fully recovered from his back injury. Pittman, who drives the #21 Hop & Sac J&J, is the series’ most improved racer this season, ranking third in "A" Feature victories with six.
"My guys – Joe Gaerte, Bob Curtis and Sean Young – gave me a great car tonight," Pittman said after winning the Charlotte Outlaw Championship at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway October 12th. "My hat's off to Tyler Walker. He probably had the fastest car the whole weekend; that was pretty obvious. We're just happy to get a win. We probably had the second-fastest car tonight, and it really means a lot for us to get a win down here. This is one of the nicest facilities we come to all year long, and the atmosphere with the big track right next door is just awesome."
Walker, who succeeded Pittman as the World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion this season, is the hottest driver in sprint car racing. He performed his patented victory lane back flips after wining the Preliminary Feature at the Charlotte Outlaw Championship and the "A" Feature at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City October 20th.
