World of Outlaws Visit Sharon Speedway on June 1

With the first East Coast swing of the year in the books, the World of Outlaws return to the Midwest this week for a pair of events in Ohio, beginning at Sharon Speedway on Friday, June 1. It will be the lone visit this season to the 3/8-mile track for the series.

Jac Haudenschild won a thrilling battle with Brooke Tatnell last season at Sharon Speedway to pick up the win in his home state. The native of Wooster, Ohio won the Crane Cams Dash to earn the pole position, with Tatnell taking the lead on the opening lap and leading the first 23 laps before Haudenschild made the pass for the win on the 24th circuit, with Tatnell nearly running him down at the end. Haudenschild enters the event this week with four Top-Five finishes as he closes in on his first A-Feature win of the season.

Donny Schatz enters the event at Sharon Speedway on top of the World of Outlaws championship standings. The reigning series champion has seven wins on the season and a series-best 18 Top-Five finishes as he chases his second consecutive title. He won the Eckerd Outlaw Showdown last Friday night at the Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Joey Saldana has had plenty of success at Sharon Speedway over the years with the World of Outlaws, as well as the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions. He won a World of Outlaws A-Feature at the 3/8-mile facility in 2002, and has led 94 laps in his career with the series at the track. Entering the event on Friday, June 1 the 1996 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year is second in points on the strength of five wins and 16 Top-Five finishes.

Daryn Pittman finished fifth at Sharon last season, and enters the event this week third in World of Outlaws championship points. The native of Owasso , Oklahoma has two wins on the season and earned his eighth Top-Five finish of the season on Monday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park , after winning the Crane Cams Dash.

Danny Lasoski has won twice in World of Outlaws competition at Sharon Speedway, including in the series first visit to the track in 2002. His last win at the track came in 2004. He holds the track record in time trials, turning a lap of 12.844 seconds on July 30, 2003. This season he has two wins, including last week at Grandview Speedway, as well as at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky last month. The 2001 World of Outlaws champion is fourth in points on the strength of 18 Top-10 finishes.

Steve Kinser is the career leader in wins at Sharon Speedway for the World of Outlaws. The 20-time series champion has won three times at the track, including a sweep of both events in 2003. Kinser, who calls Bloomington , Indiana home, won his fifth race of the season on Monday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in New York , and also has 13 Top-Five finishes as he enters the event fifth in points.

Jason Meyers won in his last visit to Sharon Speedway in 2005. He is currently sixth in points, just two markers out of the Top-Five. The native of Clovis , California has two wins and 10 Top-Five finishes. He has been one of the most consistent drivers over the last month-and-a-half of the season.

Craig Dollansky enters the event on Friday with momentum, after earning a fourth-place finish at Rolling Wheels on Memorial Day. It was his first Top-Five finish with new crew chief Mike Woodring as part of the team. Woodring, a veteran crew chief and car owner with the World of Outlaws, joined the team last week.

Paul McMahan continues to close in on his first win of the season driving for two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart. He led a number of laps at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway last Friday and on Memorial Day, he earned his 12th Top-10 finish of the season. The California native who now calls Nashville home is a very solid eighth in the championship standings.

Jason Solwold returned to action at Rolling Wheels after missing the event in Charlotte due to a severe allergic reaction to an insect bite. The native of Mt. Vernon , Washington finished sixth on Monday night, as he continues to close in on his first A-Feature win of the season. He won two preliminary features last season.

Jason Sides, the 2003 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year earned his 11th Top-10 finish of the season on Monday. The native of Bartlett , Tennessee is just five points out of the Top-10 in the championship standings. He earned a season-best second-place finish on May 20 at New Egypt Speedway.

Tim Shaffer has raced at Sharon Speedway a number of times in his career. The native of Aliquippa , Pennsylvania has eight Top-Five finishes on the season, including three runner-up performances as he closes in on his first win of the season.

Terry McCarl finished seventh at Sharon Speedway last season, but after the checkered flag flew he sustained a broken left leg when the U-Joint in his car exploded. After surgery and countless hours of rehabilitation he returned to the cockpit just four weeks later and returned to the winner’s circle at Huset’s Speedway in South Dakota , where he is a six-time track champion. This season the native of Altoona , Iowa has 13 Top-10 finishes.

Kerry Madsen is the current leader in the battle for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year. The native of St. Mary’s, NSW, Australia won his first career World of Outlaws A-Feature event at Volusia Speedway Park in February as part of the Florida DIRTcar Nationals. He enters the event at Sharon Speedway with four Top-10 finishes on the season.

Randy Hannagan had a very solid night at Sharon last season, earning a third-place finish. He earned a spot in the Crane Cams Dash and steadily worked his way to the front of the field on the high-banked track. He continues to climb in the World of Outlaws championship standings, entering the week 15th overall.

Justin Henderson had a very solid run last season in his first visit to the track. He began the night by turning in the ninth fastest lap in time trials, and followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the A-Feature. The second-year driver has five Top-10 finishes this season and led 14 laps at Manzanita Speedway earlier in the season. He won his first Crane Cams Dash of the season last Friday night at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Chad Kemenah the reigning World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has turned countless laps at Sharon Speedway over the years in his home state. He set fast time on Monday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park and earned a spot in the Crane Cams Dash. He has five Top-10 finishes on the season including a season-best finish of third at Paducah International Raceway in April.

Jeremy Campbell had a strong night at Sharon last season, as he finished fourth. The second-year driver has a couple of Top-10 finishes this season, including a season-best fourth-place effort at Tri-State ( Ind. ) Speedway last month.

Chad Hillier broke into the Top-20 in the World of Outlaws championship standings for the first time this season after a solid night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Monday. The rookie from Burlington , Washington is the only driver to win a track championship in all three sprint car divisions at Skagit Speedway in his home state.

Veteran Dion Hindi of New Mexico, finished a very solid 10th last season at Sharon Speedway, after racing his way into the A-Feature by way of the B-main.

Jason Martin will make his second start at Sharon Speedway on Friday. The second-year driver turned in the 11th fastest lap in time trials last season with a very strong 44-car field in attendance. He earned a career-best fourth-place finish earlier this season at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky .

Tatnell set fast time last season at Sharon Speedway. He finished second in the Crane Cams Dash to earn the outside front row starting spot in the A-Feature, where he quickly jumped to the lead. In his first race back after spending time with his family in his native Australia , Tatnell finished sixth in the Eckerd Outlaw Showdown last Friday.

Veteran Brian Carlson will miss the event as he continues to recover from ligament and muscle damage to his left leg sustained earlier this event.

Drivers currently competing for the World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award that will be in action include: Tony Bruce Jr. of Kansas, who earned his best career finish on May 25 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway, when he was third, Zach Chappell, who earned his first career fast time honor earlier this month at Lake Ozark Speedway in Missouri, Sam Hafertepe Jr. the reigning American Sprint Car Series Sonner Region (ASCS) champion, Hillier, and Madsen.
