WHEATLAND, Mo. – Here they come! The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) high-powered off-road racing circuit invades the Lucas Oil Speedway in diminutive Wheatland, Mo., this coming September 22-23 for a huge season-ending show.
The race weekend, sponsored by Nissan and billed as the “Nissan Showdown in the Show-Me State”, are the final two rounds of racing on WSORR’s “Tour 2007”. Points championships for Series titles in nine classes are up for grabs.
The drama unfolds both Saturday and Sunday beginning at Noon. Gates open at Lucas Oil Speedway at 10 a.m. daily. Three PRO classes and six SRT Division classes will race each day. PRO classes include high performance full-size and mid-size race pickup trucks in 4x4 and 2-wheel drive configurations. SRT classes include 600 HP Super Stock Trucks, Stock Trucks, Formula 4x4 SUV’s as well as three exotic, high flying off-road buggy classes.
Points racing is tight across all three PRO classes. Four 4x4 racers are in the hunt for a WSORR PRO 4x4 title, led by Johnny Greaves, Abrams, Wisc. Greaves won the celebrated BorgWarner Shootout in his last WSORR outing driving the Monster Forest County Potawatomi BFG Toyota at the annual off-road World Championships over Labor Day weekend.
In the PRO 2WD struggle, the coveted WSORR title is a race between the Skyjacker Ford of Scott Taylor, Belividere, Ill.; Mike Oberg’s Amsoil Kumho Chevrolet (Eagle River, Wisc.); and the Simply Wow Toyo Chevy of Kevin Probst (New Lenox, Ill.). Lucas Oil Speedway fans will also watch the country’s top female PRO off-road racer – Rhonda Konitzer in her Goodyear MYM Chevy – battle for season-ending honors.
The PRO Light Pickup also has four racers vying for a Series title. As in past seasons, Jeff Kincaid’s Forest County Potawatomi BFG Toyota Tacoma is in a “do or die” struggle with Chad Hord’s Boss Snowplow Kumho Nissan Frontier. The two superstar racers are separated by just three points.
Four racers in the SRT Super Stock Truck class have a shot at a WSORR Series Championship. Ben Wandahsega, Bark River, Mich., (Forest County Potawatomi Toyo Chevy) leads class rookie Dave Waldvogel, Fond du Lac, Wisc., (Bendix Toyo Chevy) by a single point.
In the high profile Super Buggy class, Canadian Gary Nierop leads the class but tenacious Aaron Hawley (Las Vegas, Nev.) is just 12 points back. The 1600 Buggy class is close with John Fitzgerald (Omaha, Neb.) leading Mark Steinhardt (Rhinelander, Wisc.) by only four points. In 1600 Light buggy action, Craig Metz (Rhinelander, Wisc.) has a precarious two point lead over Jamie Kleikamp (Wilson, Mich.) with Greg Stingle (Black Creek, Wisc.) just nine points back.
Formula 4x4 racing finds Bob Sayers (Lakeville, Minn.) with 192 points and Dave DeMaegd (Mishawaka, Ind.) hanging close at 186 points. The Stock Truck class leader is Scott Beauchamp, Escanaba, Mich.
