Xdcs Super Late Models Invade Delta Bowl This Weekend

Tunica, Mississippi (April 29, 2003) – It’s time to batten down the hatches, as a storm of epic proportions is taking aim on the state-of-the-art Delta Bowl Speedway in Tunica, Mississippi. The Xtreme Dirt Car Series Super Late Models are set to invade the high banked, 1/3 mile gumbo oval this Friday, May 2nd and Saturday May 3rd. Dirt late model pilots from across the nation will wage war in the “Tunica’s Thunder in the Delta 75 Presented by Competition Cams” that pays an impressive $15,000 to win and $1,000 to start.

The Xtreme Dirt Car Series has seen five different winners in its first six races of the 2003 campaign as the level of competition has increased to an unbelievable level. Drivers picking up wins thus far into the 2003 season include Jimmy Mars (Wisconsin), Rick Eckert (Pennsylvania), Scott Bloomquist (Tennessee), Earl Pearson Jr. (Florida), and Skip Arp (Tennessee). All of the aforementioned drivers are expected for this weekend’s event along with entries from over ten states. Other possible entries for this weekend’s shootout include Freddy Smith, Billy Moyer, Donnie Moran, Brian Birkhofer, Matt Miller, Dale McDowell, Don O’Neal, Steve Francis, Wendell Wallace, Billy Drake, Shannon Babb, and many more!!! The traveling stars will not find the local drivers to be very hospitable as Jessie Bailey, Terry Pool, Jamie Dacus, Billy James, Jan Howard, Anthony Rushing and many others are expected to be on hand attempt to keep the big money at home.

Also, on the card for Saturday night, the lightning fast, sprint cars will do battle for $2,000 to win and $100 to start. This will mark the inaugural race for the winged warriors on the 1/3 mile oval, and competitors from across the area are expected to be on hand in an effort to be the first to conquer the gumbo, speed plant.

In addition, the modifieds will be in action, competing for a $1,200 top prize in a feature that pays $100 just to start. Opening night saw Robert Powers make the long trek from Missouri to steal the first place money in the modified division, and this week the local drivers will be out for revenge.

Saturday night’s XDCS program will be taped and aired for the first time on the Speed Channel on May 29th at 9 p.m. ET.

On Friday night, gates open at 4:00, and an open practice will be held for the super late models from 6:00 to 9:00. During the practice there will be a free barbecue for drivers and crews. Fans, who purchased advanced tickets before this past Saturday will also receive free admittance to the barbecue. Friday night, all access admission is only $5 for fans, crews, and racers.

On Saturday night, the pit gate opens at 2:00 with Xtreme Dirt Car Series tech and registration running from 2:30 to 5:15. The grandstands will open at 5:00 with hot laps at 6:00. Grandstand admission is $25 and pit admission is $30.

Delta Bowl Speedway is located 15 miles south of Tunica, Mississippi on Highway 3 (just one mile north of Highway 4).
