PARKERSBURG, WV - Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN was the Ringers Gloves Fast Qualifier on Friday night among the 66 entrants for the $25,000-to-win Xtreme DirtCar Series/Renegade DirtCar Series Charter Communications RaceFest World Championship at West Virginia Motor Speedway.
The four-time XDCS champion and current series point leader turned the 5/8-mile clay oval in 21.951 seconds for an average speed of 102.501 miles per hour driving the Miller Brothers Coal Bloomquist/Custom Taurus. Bloomquist will start the first of six heat races set for Saturday night from the pole position.
Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV was the second quick qualifier, and will start the Bill Bland Towing/The Farm Used Auto Parts Rocket/Malcuit Monte Carlo from the pole of the second heat. Mike Balzano of Parkersburg, WV will start the third heat from the pole after timing in his Smoker's Friendly/Eddie's Auto Parts Rocket/Russell Baker Monte Carlo third quick.
The fourth fastest time was turned in by Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH in the Imler's Poultry Rocket/Russell Baker Monte Carlo and will start from the pole of the JE Pistons fourth heat. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY drove his Valvoline/Mopar Parts Rocket/Stanton Intrepid to the fifth fastest time and the pole for the fifth heat.
R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, OH will start from the pole of the sixth heat after turning in the sixth fastest time in the Conley Trucking Rocket/Draime Grand Prix. The top three finishers from each heat race will automatically earn a starting spot in Saturday night's 100-lap main event.
The six heat race winners will line up inverted for the six-lap Action Performance Dash, and the way they finish will be the way they will line up in the first six starting spots for the Saturday night big show. The six fastest qualifiers that don't win a heat will line up in a six lap dash on Saturday night to set starting spots seven through 12 in the big show.
Drivers finishing fourth on back in the six heats will come back on Saturday night in one of three consolation races in which the top three finishers will transfer to the big show in starting spots 19 through 24. Starting positions 25 through 28 will be provisionals of the Xtreme DirtCar Series and the Renegade DirtCar Series, and starting spots 29 and 30 will be WVMS Promoter's Options.
RaceFest marks the first time the Xtreme DirtCar Series and the Renegade DirtCar Series have co-sanctioned a single event. On Saturday, the pit gate opens at 8 a.m., and the grandstand gate opens at 10 a.m. There will be an XDCS/RDCS Drivers Autograph Session on Souvenir Row that begins at 12 noon.
Street Stock and AMRA Modified hot laps begin at 3 p.m., and XDCS/RDCS hot laps are set for 4 p.m. The XDCS/RDCS heat races will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by consolation races, the two dashes, and the $25,000-to-win 100-lap main event.
The Amerihost Inn Parkersburg South off I-77 at Exit 170, just minutes from WVMS, is the Xtreme DirtCar Series Official Host Hotel for the Charter RaceFest event at WVMS.
