Xtreme Buys Renegade

Xtreme...

My take on this? Cautious optimism. If this is a step towards creating a uniform set of rules, and a truly nationwide feeder system for dirt late models, then I'm all for it. But the pessimist in me looks at 2 things.

First, Xtreme is going to be an all Goodyear Tire series in 2004. I can only assume they will also mandate Goodyears for the Renegade territory. So that means that when they roll through the midwest, all the weekly racers will have to putt their Hoosiers in the garage and buy at the very minimum 4 new Goodyears just to race with them. Not that I'm pro-Hoosier, or any other brand, for that matter. I just fear that many locals will pass on the opportunity to race with the best in the business because of it.

Secondly, the monopoly factor. Competition keeps a product sharp. One need only look at the quality of programming on thw WWE (formerly WWF) wrestling show. Before we go any further, yes I am fully aware it is pre-determined. I take it for what it is- a sweaty soap opera for guys. Nonetheless, it is a very highly rated form of entertainment. When they were in competition with the WCW brand, their storylines and characters were much more compelling. After Titan Sports bought the WCW brand, their product almost immediately lost it's edge. If Xtreme eventually gets to the point where it controlls the majority of the series and tracks around the country (as they are rumored to desire), the product will undoubtedly suffer.

The variable in all of this could be the largest late model sanctioning body in the midwest, UMP. Will Schrader, Sargent, and the rest of the partners fall into line with whatever Xtreme decides will be "dirt car rules"? Or will they do as their predecessor has done in the past and stand firmly and defiant against whatever Xtreme does in interest of "the little guy". After all, they are "for the racer" (insert gratuitous ammounts of sarcasm here).

So I guess we'll just have to take a wait and see attitude with this new development. I guess if worse comes to worse, some enterprising young promotor could always start up a national SPEC Motor series!

LET'S SEE WITHSARGENT AND CO IN CAHOOTS WITH HOOSIER I DON'T SEE UMP GOING GOODYEAR GOD i HOPE NOTE BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY BUT IT WILL MAKE IT INTERESTING WITH THE BIG SHOWS WHO WILL SHOW UP SPEC MOTORS WOULD TOUCH THAT WITH A TEN FOOT ------

The best tire rule(as I beat the dead horse somemore) is a D55 or LM40 Hoosier. Yea yea its not fair let them run a comparable compound AR, I don't care about tire companies, just racers, and most of us understand the hoosiers at least a litle.

SPEC MOTOR? That was a fun thread, heres my offering. Any 23 deg head, cast block must wiegh 2250, aluminum block must wiegh 2350, with 50# of it mounted under the mastercylenders. Any non 23deg head weigh 2400. Camshaft rule ANY mounted in the center of the engine, Piston Rule Any, Cubic inch Any, Valves 2 per cyl, carburators ONE, fuel gas or alcahol, not mixed, no fuel additives of any kind, not even top lube.

If you don't like wieght penaltyies/breaks to cheapen the engines, then think about paying the top five $200 more to win, for the engine you want, and less bonus for further from it. Phase the bonuses through the top five with the first one not running an open engine getting the $200.

Less guys buying more tires each, or more guys buying less tires each. Sounds like a good tire rule really wouldn't help or hurt the tire industry.

UMP DOES NOT LOOK OUT FOR THE LITTLE GUY UMP STANDS FOR UNLIMITED MONEY PROGRAMS IF THEY WERE LOOKING OUT FOR THE LITTLE GUY THEY WOULD LOOK MORE CLOSELY AT ENGINE RULES AND NOT BODY RULES AND THERE WOULD NOT BE SEVEN DIFFERENT TIRE COMPOUNDS ALLOWED

Don't be suprised if the Xtreme Series announces Stacker 2 as the new title sponsor for the 2004 Season.

seem funny checked the rules and only saw 4 compunds except when running the mile then their will b3e5 check southern allstars tires if you want too see excessive and you never know what 's in the works with the new owners

lets see you can run d-10,20,30,40 and m-10,20,30 correct me if iam wrong but isn't that seven compounds

then your saying they are illegal ,correct but they are thesame tires just one is synethetivand one is natural rubber correct what would be the solution please tell us all

as dean said a d-55 or harder tire that checks at least 60 on a durometer (hope i spelled that right) then you wouldn't need a monster motor just a thought

true, true ,sounds familar don't it read last night that exreme wants to go with just 4 compounds next year ,makes you want to go hmmmm
