MOORESVILLE, NC - Over a nine-day period the state of Ohio will be invaded and inundated with thousands of race fans and the nation's top dirt Late Model race teams. The Xtreme DirtCar Series Ohio Speedweek is about to commence and will run from July 3-11 at five dirt tracks spread across the Buckeye State.

At the beginning of the year five dirt race track promoters got
together and decided to give the thousands of race fans what they have been clamoring for, a "speedweek" of national dirt Late Model racing events. These events would feature the finest drivers in the country assembled in one state to do battle at five of the state of Ohio's finest and most competitive racing facilities.

The Xtreme Dirt Car Series is sanctioning the "Xtreme Ohio Late Model Speedweek", a national dirt Late Model sanctioning body based in North Carolina. In addition, one race will be televised on the SPEED Channel network, and one will be televised on regional television.

The extravaganza kicks off on Thursday July 3 at the Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH followed by a July 4 holiday show at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, OH. July 5 will serve as a rain date.

The next event will be held on Tuesday July 8 at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH with Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH picking up the Wednesday July 9 date. The series will finish off at KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH on Friday July 11 with Saturday July 12 reserved as a rain date.

The winner each night will receive $10,000 and the races will pay $700 to just start the main event.

"I think it's going to be great especially with those big name guys who really aren't up in our area, the Ohio and Pennsylvania area much," stated Dave Blaney, Winston Cup star and co-owner of Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH. "It will be a treat to see them race there. I can't wait to see how it goes over."

As for dirt Late Model racing itself, Blaney is a fan.

"I love watching those cars anyway, as they are just wild to watch," commented Blaney. "I watched them in Florida a little bit and I watch them on TV some and keep with them through the racing papers with what's going on. Any type of race cars I keep up with."

Dirt Late Model teams from across the country will be in attendance, including top Xtreme teams like defending and two-time series champion Rick Eckert of York, PA, 1999 series champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA, four-time series champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY, Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH, Earl Pearson Jr. of
Jacksonville, FL, Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA, Jimmy Mars of Elk
Mound, WI, Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI, and Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year point leader Matt Miller of Waterville, OH.

Other traveling pros expected are Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV, Jeff Smith of Dallas, NC, Randle Chupp of Mooresville, NC, and Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH. In addition, many independent and other competing sanctions´ top stars are expected to be at most or all of the speedweek events.

Defending Xtreme Shootout Champion Chub Frank of Sugar Grove, PA heads that list. Others include regional favorites Mike Balzano of Parkersburg, WV, John Mason of Millersburg, OH, Rob Blair of Titusville, PA, Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH, Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY, Todd Andrews of Eldred, PA, Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN, Keith Berner of Millersburg, OH, and Mark Banal of St. Clairsville, OH.

"It's been a while since anything like this has been held for dirt Late Models and despite the current economic climate we felt we needed to give the fans what they have been asking for," stated Jim Nier, owner and promoter of KC Raceway. "We think this concept is viable and will be successful and we are already thinking ahead to next year. This year will be a year to get started and hopefully we can make this an annual special week and have seven tracks in seven nights. That's the ultimate goal. So we'll use this year as a barometer of sorts."

And the other promoters agree with Nier's evaluation.

"I think it's one of the greatest things to happen to Late Models,"
stated Ronnie Moran, owner of Muskingum County Speedway near Zanesville, OH. "They've needed it for awhile and nobody has went ahead and did anything like this for awhile. An Xtreme race is a good race. They (fans) are all wanting to see the Xtreme race."

"I'm very excited about the Ohio Late Model Speedweek," commented John Hess, co-owner & promoter of Wayne County Speedway. "Especially for the racing. In addition to each tracks' regular Late Model racers, fans can also enjoy the top national stars. I just can't wait to see the racing! We should have fantastic car counts at each track."

The Friday July 11 finale at KC Raceway will be filmed, edited and
broadcast over the SPEED Channel on July 31. Wayne County Speedway's Tuesday July 8 race will be filmed and broadcast Sunday July 13 at 8:00 PM over northeast Ohio television stations WAX-TV Channel 35 in Cleveland, OH and simultaneously on WAOH-TV Channel 29 in Akron, OH.

There is also a chance that NASCAR Winston Cup star Blaney may enter the competition at his track, Sharon Speedway.

"I might!" revealed Blaney. "I don't know if my schedule is going to allow me just yet but there's a chance of it."

If Blaney's schedule permits, he will race a dirt Late Model back-up car from either the Randle Chupp, Biscotti's sponsored #114 Rocket Chassis or a Chub Frank, Corry Rubber-sponsored #1* Rocket Chassis dirt Late Model.

"I think it's going to be a tremendous hit for everybody," stated Doug Bland, the president of the Xtreme Dirt Car Series. "I think it's a tremendous addition to the Xtreme schedule. The fans are so passionate about their Late Model racing in the state of Ohio that this is going to be a neat addition to their yearly racing fix, per se. Seeing all the Late Model superstars at five facilities is going to be unique and is something I think will grow and get bigger and bigger.

"Since we've announced it, we've had three other facilities in the
state of Ohio call and ask about how they can get involved in this and naturally the planning has already been in place for this year, so we'll have to talk to them for the 2004 season," said Bland. "But I can see this turning into a seven consecutive night series next year.

"The drivers love it because most of them race for a living and would race every night if they could," Bland said. "It's great for the teams, especially since they don't have to travel so far to each track. Most all the race tracks are real racy and they are going to put on a great show for the fans. Our guys are the best in the business, so if you give them a nice racy track, they'll have the fans grinning from ear to ear."
